Title: Maintenance Technician
Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Director of Maintenance, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring that school buildings and grounds are maintained in a clean, safe, orderly, and functional condition. This position performs a variety of maintenance tasks and supports the efficient operation of district facilities.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.; Subject to emergency call as needed
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance to ensure school buildings and grounds remain clean, orderly, and safe.
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Inspect facilities and equipment regularly and report or recommend repairs and replacements to the supervisor.
- Regulate building systems to maintain appropriate seasonal temperatures and optimize energy usage.
- Secure buildings entrances and exits, ensuring all doors and windows are properly locked before departure.
- Maintain and service mechanical equipment and ensure preventative maintenance schedules are followed.
- Procure and manage tools, equipment, and materials necessary for maintenance tasks.
- Track inventory and place orders for supplies and materials as needed.
- Document work performed and maintain accurate records.
- Perform snow and ice removal and other seasonal maintenance tasks.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors.
- Maintain open and professional communication with administrators, staff, and families.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the school Principal.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of:
- Maintenance and repair techniques related to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Building codes, safety regulations, and occupational health standards.
- Occupational safety and health laws and regulations.
- Basic facility maintenance practices and preventative maintenance procedures.
- Skills in:
- Troubleshooting, problem-solving, and repair of building systems and equipment.
- Basic mathematical calculations.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Use of tools, equipment, and materials related to maintenance tasks.
- Ability to:
- Interpret and follow oral, written, and diagrammatic instructions.
- Work independently and collaboratively with school staff and students.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Travel between school sites and district facilities as needed.
- Perform physical demanding tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments across school facilities.
- Must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Periodic strenuous physical activity required.
- Standard risks associated with the use of power tools and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to operate a district vehicle and riding lawn mower.
- Requires regular attendance and punctuality.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent, required.
- Previous experience in facility maintenance and repair preferred.
- Any combination of education and experience providing the required skills and knowledge for successful performance may be considered.
- License/certifications in skilled trades, preferred.
- Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation, required.
- Successful completion of required background check and employment screenings.
