Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM) seeks a dynamic Instructional Designer for Faculty Development who will help shape how our faculty learn, grow, and flourish. As a central member of the faculty development team, the Instructional Designer will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Success to drive the design and delivery of innovative learning experiences that help faculty succeed in their professional development throughout their careers. This includes academic promotion, leadership training, mentoring and coaching, and more. This role is integral to our success as we grow educational offerings across multiple states, with WFUSM serving as the academic core of Advocate Health, and offers the opportunity to build high-impact programs that advance educational excellence, career advancement, and belonging across a broad and evolving academic health system.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Instructional Designer will have a dual report to the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Experience and Success and the Assistant Vice President of Faculty Affairs and will work collaboratively to implement and manage innovative programs that:

  • Attract and retain a world-class faculty to WFUSM
  • Equip faculty to succeed in scholarly work and academic promotion
  • Provide faculty development and leadership training at every career stage
  • Offer mentoring and coaching to faculty throughout their careers
  • Create initiatives to value, elevate, and recognize faculty
  • Educate faculty about new technologies

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for working with stakeholders across the organization to identify performance, skills, knowledge and attitudinal gaps of a targeted audience and create learning experiences that close the associated gaps.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers innovative, multi-modal learning solutions and experiences across each campus environment and the larger health system that aligns to leadership needs, functionality and technical requirements.
  • Works with faculty and staff to understand the needs and conditions of faculty development satisfaction, strategy, and capabilities to achieve the best outcomes in the educational environment.
  • Consults with faculty/staff on instructional design needs, plans and conducts analyses, leads the design and development of the training or curricula, and manages the implementation and evaluation of the training or curricula.
  • Proven project management experience in the administration of learning management software, instructional design, or continuing education. Experience with curriculum development and course design software: MS Office Suite, Articulate, Camtasia, Adobe products, web authoring tools/AV experience a plus.
  • Conducts various program management duties such as event and programmatic support, and day-to-day operations relating to the Office of Faculty Affairs
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems is required.
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence.
  • Conducts instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts.
  • Works with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design and develop learning content.
  • Creates learner-centered learning objectives and content to match them.
  • Applies instructional design theories, practice and methods.
  • Designs and develops compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer including, but not limited to: microlearning, social learning, virtual and instructor led learning, gamification and simulations, and performance support tools.
  • Demonstrates management, project planning, strong collaboration and cross functional leadership abilities.
  • Designs an assessment strategy in collaboration with the Assessment & Evaluation team and Curriculum leaders to gauge impact of the development experience.
  • Collaborates with IT teams and consultants to ensure quality and efficiency in evaluation and assessment processes.
  • Be able to work both independently and part of a team of faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Attends and contributes to the discussion in applicable professional development committees, task forces, etc.
  • Designs, records, and edits videos.
  • Updates OFA SharePoint site
  • Creates fliers, brochures, and other graphic design products.
  • Writes content.
  • Occasional travel to Charlotte may be required
  • This is an in person role
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, instructional technology, or related field with (5) years of related instructional design experience. Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, instructional technology, or related field is preferred. Ability to design functional and technical training is necessary. Ideal candidates will have experience in problem-based, inquiry-based and/or case-based curricula.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of instructional design and implementation.
  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • ·Experience with multi-media including video and graphic design.
  • Able to work on multiple projects and deliverables at a time.
  • Good project management and meeting facilitation skills are necessary.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Acts with high ethical standards and focuses on excellent customer service. Must be able to work professionally and effectively with all faculty and staff levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • High energy, team-oriented, customer-focused with a passion for excellence consistent with WFUSM’s culture and core values and operating with the utmost integrity.
  • ·Able to successfully navigate a complex academic, clinical, research organization with multiple internal and external stakeholders, leading through influence and transparency to gain trust and credibility.
