The Division of Art and Machine Creativity at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is seeking a Senior Technical Assistant (Part‑time) to support the preparation and execution of our exhibition events, taking place this May and June. The ideal candidate will assist with daily operations, help students refine and translate their technical requirements into feasible production plans, and supervise the on‑site setup of the exhibition.
This role is well‑suited for someone with strong communication skills, hands‑on production or technical experience, and the ability to guide student artists through the final stages of exhibition preparation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily coordination and operations related to the Graduation Show.
- Work closely with students to review, refine, and adapt the technical requirements of their artworks into feasible, safe, and production‑ready plans.
- Provide technical guidance to student artists, including advising on:
- Equipment selection and specifications (e.g. projectors, computers, sensors, media servers, audio systems).
- Setup requirements for projects such as interactive installations, and creative coding-based artworks.
- Assist students in troubleshooting and completing their artworks to a presentable exhibition standard.
- Liaise with the technical team, contractors, and venue staff to ensure smooth execution of exhibition requirements.
- Supervise on‑site setup, installation, and troubleshooting during the preparation period.
- Track progress, flag risks, and ensure the exhibition setup meets the required timeline and standards.
- Provide general administrative and logistical assistance as needed.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate should possess:
- Basic Computer Science or related technical background (e.g. creative computing, media technology, engineering, or equivalent practical experience).
- Experience with art exhibitions or creative technology installations, such as projection mapping, interactive media, audiovisual setups, or digital artworks.
- Practical understanding of technical and production considerations, including: AV and projection systems, Computing hardware and software basics, Power requirements, cabling, mounting, and safety considerations.
- Familiarity with TouchDesigner, Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) design tools and methodologies, especially in the context of interactive or experiential artworks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work supportively with student artists.
- Strong sense of responsibility, problem‑solving ability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work on campus and on site during peak periods leading up to the show.

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
