Description of Work

You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date.This position will serve as an Engineering Technician I in the Youngsville Resident Engineer’s Office providing technical work supporting higher level technicians or engineers in construction inspection on roadway projects which may include surveying, materials sampling, testing, erosion control, and construction traffic control. This position requires the performance of a wide variety of standardized and non- standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data for daily reports. This work involves limited decision making and use of judgment. Employee in this position will perform a full range of calculations and computations.
Additional Expectations:
Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle. Position will perform both office and field duties. Projects may last for several months or longer. May be subject to a wide range of hazards such as rough or uneven terrain and/or work in adverse weather conditions to include heat or cold. This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours as necessary. Safety toe shoes required.
**Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC07 / $37,377 - $65,408
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad and software
- Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and /or construction surveying
- Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments

Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.EEO Statement
