Now Hiring: Deputy Director of Finance (Nonprofit)

Department: Fiscal
Classification: Exempt
Supervisory Responsibility: Yes
Reports To: Director of Finance
Hiring Range: $70,000 – $75,000 Annually
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
This position may require occasional evening and weekend work.


About the Role

Action Pathways is seeking an experienced and collaborative Deputy Director of Finance to support and lead the organization’s accounting and financial operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy, transparency, compliance, and operational effectiveness across the agency.

The Deputy Director of Finance will work closely with executive leadership, Program Directors, and the Fiscal Department to strengthen financial systems, support programmatic success, and guide the organization's financial strategy.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, strong leadership skills, and the ability to foster a positive and collaborative work environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and reconciliations
  • Prepare and present monthly financial statements, reports, and analyses
  • Lead budget development, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and grant requirements
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as liaison to external auditors
  • Supervise, mentor, and support the accounting staff
  • Strengthen internal controls and improve financial processes and efficiencies
  • Monitor organizational cash flow and financial health
  • Manage cash flow forecasting in collaboration with Program Directors
  • Partner with Program Directors to evaluate program financial performance and operational effectiveness
  • Develop and implement financial and administrative systems that support agency operations
  • Respond to inquiries from the CEO, Director of Finance, and Leadership Team regarding financial reports and special requests
  • Participate in leadership and team meetings while fostering collaborative relationships across departments
  • Serve in the capacity of Director of Finance in the Director’s absence

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 10+ years of nonprofit accounting experience, including grant management

  • Strong financial analysis and cash flow management skills
