Manager, Government Affairs and PolicyManager Government Affairs EUOverview
The Government Affairs & Policy team is looking for an experienced Manager Government Affairs EU to help drive our engagement with EU institutions and government representatives, legislators, opinion formers, regulators and others in the payments community pertaining to selected policy priorities of importance to Mastercard. The ideal candidate should be passionate about policy, intellectually curious, analytical and brings an understanding of the technology industry.
The Role
Based in Brussels, reporting to the Vice President Government Affairs EU, this role supports Mastercard’s public policy advocacy efforts with EU institutions and the European region on selected topics, and will be responsible for direct advocacy and influencing, educating policy makers and various governmental/legislative bodies to positively impact laws on these topics. They include:

• Financial Literacy and Inclusion
• FIDA (open banking/open finance)
• Digital Fairness Act
• Public Procurement
• Tokenization and authentication
• B2B payments
• Orchestration services
• Strategy on sustainable tourism
• Sustainability products passport
• Unfair commercial practices directive
• Digital Fairness Act
• Child Sexual Abuse Material Regulation
• Corporate Tax
The successful candidate will execute policy, legislative and regulatory strategies for these topics and this specific business area, and will work to continuously refine their application. She or he will liaise and develop relationships with legislative policymakers at the EU and member state levels in cooperation with Mastercard´s country GAP managers to advocate these issues impacting Mastercard’s business.
In addition, the successful candidate will support the Vice President Government Affairs EU with internal coordination, budgeting, and reporting regarding Mastercard’s government affairs priorities in Europe.
All About You
The ideal candidate will have a distinguished track record as a high achieving government relations executive with a demonstrated capacity to build and execute programs that support business growth within a dynamic and changing corporation.
Professional level written and spoken English communication, other EU languages are an asset and interpersonal skills as a foundation for developing and maintaining good internal relationships at all levels, cross-functionally and across business units and geographies within Mastercard.
Educated to degree level, with between 5 and 10 years of management experience in similar Public Policy/Government Relations roles in a major multinational business or agency or high-profile association and with experience in dealing with Government in terms of frequency and quality of relationships.
Familiarity with current political, legal, regulatory and market trends impacting Mastercard and the ability to analyze the impact of legislation and develop strategies to move the company’s interest forward.
A team player who will work well with senior business and functional leaders of Mastercard. Must be able to work independently and constructively as a collaborative team-player. High-energy, self-motivated.
Possesses an excellent analytical approach to problem solving, ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems, able to deal with short deadlines and work productively in high pressure situations in dynamic commercial and policy environments.
