Maine Township High School District 207 announces a vacancy for a Director of Buildings and Ground ar Maine Township High School District 207 - 2025-2026.  

 

SUMMARY
The Director of Buildings and Grounds is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, operations, safety, and cleanliness of all district facilities and grounds. This position supervises custodial, maintenance, and grounds staff; coordinates repairs and preventative maintenance; ensures compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations; manages departmental budgets and contracts; and works to provide safe, functional, and well-maintained learning environments for students, staff, and the community.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Associate Principal and Director of Facilities in accordance with District 207 support staff evaluation procedures and aligned with district priorities.

 

SUPERVISES
Supervises custodial and maintenance employees.

 

CERTIFICATION & QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or certifications preferred.
  • Two (2) years experience preferred supervising staff and conducting annual performance reviews
  • Working knowledge of painting, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general facility maintenance.
  • Experience operating custodial and maintenance equipment, including hand and power tools, scrubbers, vacuums, ladders, scaffolds, and lifts.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong work ethic; dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Additional qualifications as determined by the Director of Facilities and Administration.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and assess performance of 25+ skilled and semi-skilled staff members in the Buildings and Grounds Department.
  • Develop individual staff performance evaluations and provide leadership for skills enhancement and promotion.
  • Maintain records of all facility operational certifications including but not limited to MSDS Books; IDPH surveys for kitchen and pool facilities; ROE Life Safety inspections; employee training; insurance compliance assessments.
  • Assist in the development of the annual operating budget and perform all tasks related to purchasing supplies and materials; vendor services; and equipment repair and replacement. Includes auditing invoices and approvals for payment.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Facilities to create and maintain the Master Facility Plan, including annual large project scope, specifications, and budget.
  • Facilitate all maintenance operations including the hiring and performance review of outside contractors.
  • Organize and oversee schedules of all shifts of the Building & Grounds staff to ensure coverage, manage overtime if needed for special projects, and accommodate vacations and extended absences.
  • Create and maintain building usage schedules to ensure proper facility coverage for all extracurricular activities and facilities rentals.
  • Work with Athletic Director to prepare athletic facilities for events and competitions
  • Prepare for and manage snow removal processes
  • Collaborate with School Administration for small scale maintenance projects
  • Additional responsibilities as determined by the administration.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, and external partners.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and work in inclement weather, as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work Environment
    Work is performed throughout school facilities, including classrooms, offices, hallways, mechanical spaces, and outdoor areas. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and weather conditions may occur.
  • Physical Requirements
    The position requires standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Tasks may involve prolonged periods on one's feet, entering and exiting confined and crawl spaces, working on ladders, scaffolds, or lifts, and performing manual labor both indoors and outdoors.
  • Flexibility & Availability
    Must be adaptable to changing priorities, emergency situations, and scheduled or unscheduled maintenance tasks.

SALARY & BENEFITS  

  • Salary $106,000.00 - $122,000.00 commensurate with experience
  • 12-month (260 paid days) - Start Date tbd
