Operations and claims activities are managed from Singapore and Tallinn.

Since 2003, Clearlake Shipping has operated a high-quality fleet of tankers, LPG and LNG carriers on both a spot and time-charter basis. Clearlake’s activities include chartering an average of 1,500 vessels annually, freight hedging (FFA), operations, claims handling and terminal safety consultations. Group Shipping activities also include ownership stakes in selected vessels chartered by Clearlake, as well as participation in joint ventures for newly built refined products tankers.

Overview of the Role

Reporting to the Global Head of Demurrage & Claims, the Analyst is responsible for the accurate calculation, negotiation and recovery of demurrage and voyage-related claims, supporting Shipping in managing voyage-level exposure and maximising cash recovery.

The role requires strong technical expertise in charter party claims, sound commercial judgement, disciplined documentation, and effective coordination with internal and external stakeholders. Candidates should also be comfortable using systems and data to enhance efficiency, reporting and control.

Main Responsibilities

  • Calculate, validate and pursue recovery of demurrage and voyage-related claims, assessing contractual entitlement, issuing fully supported claims, and actively negotiating and escalating to maximise collection, while applying commercial judgement to understand and challenge the root cause of exposure
  • Liaise with Shipping Operators, Masters, Agents and counterparties to obtain missing documents, clarify facts and resolve discrepancies
  • Record claims accurately in the relevant systems and ensure full compliance with documentation and electronic filing standards
  • Deliver structured weekly and monthly reporting on demurrage and claims, including ageing analysis, dispute tracking and recovery progress
  • Highlight recurring dispute themes, contractual weaknesses and unfavourable clauses to Freight Traders and relevant stakeholders
  • Collate and organise supporting correspondence and claim files for Legal Counsel or P&I Club review where matters require legal escalation
  • Support alignment between claims activity, operational exposure and internal reporting / provisioning requirements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of claims processes, reporting quality and data discipline
  • Where relevant, make practical use of digital tools, automation opportunities and data-led workflows to reduce manual effort and improve control
  • Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support timely resolution and collection of claims
  • Perform ad-hoc duties as requested by manager or their delegate

Profile

The individual should have the following:

  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in tanker shipping, demurrage, claims, or oil & gas trading
  • Strong understanding of charter parties, commercial contracts, laytime and demurrage principles, and petroleum industry terminology
  • Strong knowledge of time-related and post-deal claims
  • Good understanding of shipping operations and / or maritime law
  • Proven ability to manage claims commercially, with strong negotiation and follow-up skills
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and clear written / verbal communication
  • Organised, proactive and solution-oriented, with the ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
  • Positive, disciplined and accountable approach to work

Desirable additional strengths

  • Strong systems capability (claims, reporting or ETRM) with high data discipline
  • Advanced Excel; experience with Power BI, Power Query or automation tools preferred
  • Practical use of AI / digital tools to improve efficiency or control
  • Evidence of driving process improvements
  • Structured, data-led and improvement-focused
