Veterinary Surgical Technician

 Location: Westfield, NJ

Pay: $22.00–$24.00 per hour (based on experience)

*$2,500 Sign-On Bonus Available (conditions apply)*

Full-Time (36–40 hours/week) | Part-Time Opportunities Available

Westfield Veterinary Group is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgical Technician to join our growing team in Westfield, NJ. This position is ideal for a technician who enjoys the technical aspects of surgery, anesthesia, and patient care while working alongside a supportive group of veterinarians and technicians.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Surgical Veterinary Technician, you'll play a key role in ensuring safe and efficient surgical procedures from admission through recovery.

Surgical & Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for surgery and outpatient procedures
  • Obtain patient histories and perform pre-operative assessments
  • Calculate medication dosages and anesthesia protocols under veterinarian supervision
  • Administer medications via SQ, IM, and IV routes
  • Place and maintain intravenous catheters
  • Calculate and manage fluid therapy throughout procedures

Anesthesia & Monitoring

  • Induce, monitor, and recover patients undergoing anesthesia
  • Perform intubation and extubation procedures
  • Monitor ECG, capnography, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, and temperature
  • Recognize changes in patient status and communicate findings promptly
  • Maintain accurate anesthesia records throughout procedures

Recovery & Client Communication

  • Monitor post-operative patients and assess comfort levels
  • Assist with pain management protocols
  • Review discharge instructions and medications with pet owners
  • Ensure accurate and complete medical record documentation

Surgical Suite Support

  • Prepare, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
  • Maintain surgical packs and inventory
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient surgery department
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians and fellow team members

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of veterinary surgical technician experience required
  • Strong anesthesia monitoring skills required
  • Dentistry experience preferred
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical setting
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Passion for patient safety and quality veterinary medicine

Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts
  • Full-time or part-time opportunities available
  • Weekend availability as needed
