Job Description

Lyten is leading an industrial revolution through Lyten 3D Graphene™, a breakthrough supermaterial unlocking a new generation of products — from lithium–sulfur batteries and energy storage systems to concrete admixtures, lightweight composites, and next-generation sensors that are revolutionizing industries. Together, these innovations are making a massive global improvement and driving real-world impact across energy, mobility, construction, and defense.

At Lyten, we believe the most meaningful careers begin with purpose — and with people who want to make a difference. We’re not just developing advanced supermaterials — we’re about to change the world as we know it, reshaping how energy is stored, how products are built, and how progress is made.

We’re entering an exciting growth phase, scaling production across the U.S. and Europe and expanding our team of engineers, scientists, and innovators.

Apply now to join our team and be part of something bigger than yourself — where collaboration, creativity, and purpose come together to build the technologies that will define the next century.

Intern – Industrial Data & SCADA Systems

About the Role

We're looking for a technically curious and self-driven engineering intern to work directly with our team on two parallel tracks: expanding and refining our Ignition SCADA HMI and dashboards and helping build the foundational infrastructure for a predictive maintenance and process data analytics platform. You'll be doing real engineering work on systems that directly support plant operations and reliability.

Job Description

Ignition SCADA & HMI Development

  • Build and improve operator HMI screens and dashboards in Inductive Automation Ignition Perspective.
  • Develop and maintain Named Queries, Tags, and UDTs to support real-time and historical data visualization.
  • Assist with OPC-UA configuration for device and PLC connectivity
  • Write Python and Jython scripting within Ignition for data transformations and event handling.

Process Reliability Through Analytics

  • Assist with structured streaming and batch jobs for sensor data processing using Apache Spark and Delta Live Tables in Databricks.
  • Support development of ML model scaffolding (time-series anomaly detection, remaining useful life estimation) using MLflow and frameworks such as Chronos-2 or TimesFM in Databricks.
  • Assist with building dashboards that provide equipment reliability information and predictive insights alongside live process data.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience or coursework in Python (data manipulation, scripting)
  • Familiarity with industrial automation concepts — PLCs, SCADA, sensors, process control — either through coursework, labs, or personal projects
  • Comfortable working with databases and SQL for querying and structuring process data
  • Strong curiosity about the intersection of operational technology (OT) and modern data engineering

Nice to Have

  • Prior exposure to Ignition Perspective
  • Experience with Databricks, Spark, or Delta Lake
  • Exposure to MLflow, time-series ML, or predictive analytics
  • Familiarity with Kafka or other event streaming systems

What You'll Gain

  • Hands-on experience building and deploying production SCADA systems used by Operations and Process Engineering.
  • End-to-end exposure to a modern industrial AI/ML pipeline — from raw sensor data to LLM-enriched maintenance recommendations
  • Mentorship and direct collaboration with an experienced engineer across both OT and data engineering domains
  • A portfolio piece that spans SCADA development, data engineering, and applied ML in an industrial setting

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit, stand and use a computer for extended periods of time
