Job Description

Senior Design Engineer, Plant Layout for Pyro & Grinding

Build a better world

Urbanization and continuous global economic growth create a steady need for homes, office buildings, roads and ports. This is driving the demand for cement despite its energy intensive process that accounts for 7% of global CO2 emissions. For more than 140 years, we have been pioneering solutions for the Cement industry by providing it with technologies, products and services that save energy, reduce emissions and maximize productivity. When we look at the world, we don’t see it as it is, we see it as it could be. We bring efficient production to our clients and decarbonization to the entire industry. This is why our Cement strategy is called GREEN26.

About the role

Are you a 3D‑first mechanical design specialist who can turn complex concepts into clear, constructible plant models? As a Senior Design Engineer, Plant Layout, you will lead model‑based layout development in SolidWorks for pyro and grinding systems—owning large assemblies, managing interfaces across disciplines, and steering model reviews to de‑risk engineering and installation. You’ll translate process and contract requirements into robust, safe, and maintainable layouts, run clash/access checks (e.g., via Navisworks), and drive timely, high‑quality deliverables for global projects.

About the department

You will be part of the Plant Engineering department. As a part of Pyro & Grinding, we provide sustainable technologies for both new and existing cement installations. Our objective is to deliver technically robust plant layouts by applying hands‑on expertise in drafting Pyro and Grinding process systems, interlinking Fuller and third-party equipment that maximizes asset longevity, enables seamless integration of alternative fuels, and optimize operational performance and efficiency across our clients’ facilities. We are committed to delivering true value to our customers' assets while aligning with the industry's sustainability goals.

You will be part of global team while affiliated to our office in Chennai (India).

Your responsibilities

  • Lead SolidWorks model development for assigned plant areas (pyro: preheaters, calciners, rotary/vertical shaft kilns, coolers; grinding: VRMs, separators, dosing, dust collection, material transport), ensuring coherent main assemblies and sub‑assemblies.
  • Own multi‑discipline interface integration (Process, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Product Eng.) in the 3D model; maintain revision control and deliver clear interface packages.
  • checks (clash, clearance, access/maintenance, safety envelopes), capture actions, and drive closure before release.
  • Generate model‑derived documentation (plot plan, GA views, outline/load info) aligned with P&IDs, contract requirements, layout standards, and statutory/safety needs.
  • Guide and review the work of in‑house and third‑party designers; ensure interfaces are handled and deliverables meet quality and schedule.
  • Participate in internal and client/consultant design review meetings; present layout intent and resolve comments to finalization.
  • Strengthen checking processes by capturing recurring design issues and improving review routines; contribute to training and development of designers.
  • Provide site support during erection and construction for layout‑related troubleshooting and practical solutions.

What you bring

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a reputed university.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Similar Role/Industry/Organization.
  • Advanced SolidWorks proficiency with large assemblies (configurations, bottom‑up assembly, plane/sketch modeling, creating 2D from 3D, exporting STP/SAT); experience federating models and conducting reviews (e.g., Navisworks) is a plus.
  • Hands‑on plant‑layout experience interlinking pyro equipment (preheaters, calciners, rotary/vertical shaft kilns, burners, fuel/gas handling, coolers) or grinding systems (VRMs, separators, dosing, dust collection, material transport).
  • Working knowledge of material‑handling equipment; understanding of process ducting, gas‑handling, and chute/material‑flow considerations is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with plant‑layout tools, standards, and documentation practices; AutoCAD exposure helpful but secondary to SolidWorks mastery.
  • Strong quality focus, time management, and problem‑solving; ability to coordinate across cultures and motivate/design‑review teams.
  • Good IT and communication skills.

What we offer

  • A purpose-driven role with a global sustainability leader in the industry.
  • Inclusive and diverse work environment.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Flexible work arrangements.

As an equal opportunity employer, Fuller Technologies embraces diversity and equality by promoting an environment of inclusion. We encourage applicants of all backgrounds and perspectives to apply - the more diverse our employees are, the stronger our team is. In our commitment to equal opportunity and eliminating bias, we kindly request that you exclude personal information such as age, ethnicity, marital status, number of children, and photographs from your application materials.
