Job: SPD Tech
Classification: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Job Category: 3 Technicians
Position Summary
The SPD Tech is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following established infection control practices. The SPD Tech must be conscientious with regard to procedures and capable of working under pressure and interacting professionally with other department within the hospital.
Essential Functions
-Ensures proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis.
-Runs biological and chemical tests at beginning of the day shift. Records results in appropriate log.
-Processes all contaminated instruments and supplies returned to dept.
-Uses knowledge of sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items for sterilization.
-Maintains appropriate spore testing on routine basis and documents results as required.
-Applies aseptic techniques in daily work assignments.
-Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
-Maintains equipment register board.
-Knowledgeable regarding handling and care of instruments, tray preparation and special procedure items.
-Performs tray assemblage, proper packaging and preparation of all applicable supplies for sterilization.
-Properly loads, operates and cleans all sterilizers, gas and steam, and all general equipment using biological and chemical control tests.
-Receives and delivers supplies and fill requisition requests.
-Participates in departmental performance improvement activities.
-Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives.
-Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
-Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
-Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Work Experience
-One year experience in sterile processing preferred.
Education
-Sterile Processing Technician Certified preferred.
