Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Associate to join our market-leading Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR) team in Brussels. This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of a new and rapidly evolving area of EU law, supporting clients as they navigate the complexities of the FSR regime. You will play a key role in advising on all aspects of the FSR, including M&A oversight, public procurement, and market investigations, and will be involved in the development and implementation of innovative compliance solutions, including our bespoke FSR software toolkit.
About the FSR Practice
The EU’s Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR), effective since July 2023, grants the European Commission broad powers to address foreign subsidies that may distort the EU’s internal market. The FSR intersects with trade, state aid, merger control, and public procurement law. Our dedicated, multi-disciplinary FSR team is recognized for its pioneering work in this area, advising clients across industries and geographies on compliance, risk management, and strategic opportunities under the FSR. We are the only law firm to offer a proprietary FSR software toolkit, enabling clients to automate and harmonize the collection of Foreign Financial Contributions (FFCs) data.
Key Responsibilities
Advise clients on all aspects of the FSR, including M&A transactions, public tenders, and general market investigations
Lead the preparation and submission of FSR filings to the European Commission, including complex data analysis and coordination with client teams
Develop and implement internal compliance systems for clients, including leveraging our FSR software toolkit for FFCs data collection
Analyze and assess FFCs exposure and potential subsidy findings, and advise on strategic responses and remedies
Draft high-quality legal memoranda, regulatory submissions, and client communications with minimal supervision
Manage and mentor junior team members, providing guidance and feedback on their work
Play an active role in client communications, case strategy, and project management to ensure timely and effective delivery
Contribute to the development of the firm’s FSR knowledge base and thought leadership, including training and client seminars
Qualifications and Skills
Qualified to practice law in an EEA jurisdiction (required)
At least 5–7 years of post-qualification experience in EU competition, state aid, merger control, or public procurement law, ideally with direct FSR exposure
Experience handling complex regulatory filings and managing multi-jurisdictional matters
Strong analytical, drafting, and project management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain sophisticated legal concepts to non-lawyers
Proven ability to lead teams, manage client relationships, and deliver under tight deadlines
Commercially minded, intellectually curious, and proactive in anticipating client needs and regulatory developments
Why Join Us?
Work with a pioneering team at the cutting edge of EU regulatory law
Advise on high-profile, cross-border matters for leading global clients
Access to innovative tools, including our unique FSR software toolkit
Significant responsibility, client exposure, and opportunities for professional development from day one
Collaborate with colleagues across our global network and contribute to shaping the future of FSR practice
