Battery Mechanical System Engineer
Job Description
Objective of Job:
- Development of battery pack mechanical system and/or component by MB inhouse or “buy battery” project, from conceptual phase to serial production.
- Ensure battery mechanical KPI fulfillment, project milestones, product robustness and cost, via digital development, hardware validation and corresponding optimization loops.
- Failure analysis and risk assessment to support plant topics and field issue resolution.
- Change management, documentation for RD release, support lessons-learnt and knowledge sharing.
- Cross-functional reporting and alignment with stakeholders.
Tasks:
Battery mechanical system and/or mechanical component development
- Derive and manage requirements (spec book/KLH inputs) from vehicle / e-Drive to battery mechanical system & component, define design targets and interfaces.
- Evaluate pack and/or key component design with suppliers, finalize technical concept and design, considering mounting, vehicle crash, bottom damage, structural durability, corrosion, assembly, etc.
- Drive design maturity through digital development, e.g. DMU, simulation/CAE, etc.
- Plan and coordinate mechanical system validation (DVP&R) for the battery pack and/or key components
- Ensure correlation between simulation (CAE) and physical test results
- Design improvements based on validation results
- Track supplier for technical documents, drawing, BOM, FMEA, GD&T and release documentation.
- Change management and documentation.
- Support Plant try-out / assembly and relevant RD topic in production ramp-up
- Field issue analysis and resolution
Cross-functional coordination
- Align with RD battery project manager, e-Drive system, vehicle department on milestones, interfaces (e.g. pack integration, mounting & fixation, mechanical integrity, thermal, HV interface battery internal/external, if relevant) and jointly resolve technical topics in HV battery and e-Drive system.
- Prepare technical content for design reviews, risk assessments and release (including deviation/waiver proposals when needed).optimization, evidence, and lessons learned for future projects.
Other tasks
- Optimization and standardization of existing processes, and the implementation of new processes in order to drive efficiency and increase development speed
- Technical RD contact for MB internal interfaces and our cooperation partner BBAC plant
- Collecting Chinese market information in terms of market requirements, advanced technology and communication to teams and MB RD in China and Germany
