
Paratransit Specialist
Job Description
Position Summary
The Paratransit Specialist provides safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation services for patients requiring wheelchair-accessible transportation to and from medical appointments, healthcare facilities, and other approved destinations. This position operates a wheelchair-accessible vehicle equipped with a lift and Q'Straint securement system and is responsible for assisting patients throughout the transportation process while ensuring their comfort, dignity, and safety.
Essential Functions

Safely transport patients to and from medical facilities, healthcare appointments, residences, and other approved destinations in a timely manner.

Assist patients in boarding and exiting the vehicle using wheelchair lifts and other accessibility equipment.

Properly secure wheelchairs and mobility devices utilizing the Q'Straint securement system and other safety equipment.

Escort patients between the vehicle and their destination as needed.

Operate company vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws, company policies, and safety standards.

Utilize GPS and other navigation tools to locate destinations efficiently.

Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including completion of required mechanical checklists.

Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report any maintenance or mechanical concerns to a supervisor promptly.

Communicate effectively with dispatch, healthcare facilities, patients, and family members as needed.

Utilize standard radio communication procedures and codes when required.

Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Complete required documentation accurately and timely.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

Minimum of one (1) year experience preferred.

Valid Texas driver's license.

Acceptable driving record in accordance with company standards.

Ability to successfully complete company training and competency requirements.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and operate a motor vehicle for extended periods. The employee must be able to push, pull, maneuver, and secure occupied wheelchairs and mobility devices. The employee may occasionally assist with lifting, repositioning, or transferring patients weighing up to 250 pounds with or without assistance and appropriate equipment.
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic hazards, bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, fumes, airborne particles, and cleaning chemicals.
