About this Opportunity
As the Search Engine Optimisation Specialist, you will help shape how prospective students, researchers, partners and the wider community discover UQ online. Working across one of Australia's largest and most complex web environments, you'll use your technical SEO expertise to improve search visibility, enhance digital experiences and strengthen UQ's presence across traditional search engines and emerging AI-powered discovery platforms. This is a rare opportunity to influence the search performance of one of Australia's largest digital ecosystems, helping millions of people discover UQ each year across a diverse portfolio of content, audiences and brands.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading technical SEO audits and implementing recommendations across UQ’s web ecosystem, including crawl optimisation, indexation, site architecture and Core Web Vitals.
Providing expert SEO input into web design, CMS and architecture decisions, including structured data and schema markup.
Conducting keyword research and on-page optimisation to improve organic rankings, SERP appearance and click-through rates.
Acting as a trusted SEO advisor to faculties and professional units, translating complex technical insights into clear, actionable guidance.
About You
You are an analytical and purpose-driven digital professional who thrives in complex environments and enjoys working collaboratively across diverse stakeholder groups. You will bring:
Two to three years’ hands-on SEO experience in a professional or agency environment.
Demonstrated technical SEO capability, including crawl analysis, structured data, Core Web Vitals and JavaScript SEO.
Proficiency with SEO and analytics tools such as Google Search Console, GA4, SEMrush (or equivalent) and Screaming Frog.
Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript as they relate to SEO implementation.
Experience working with enterprise CMS platforms; Drupal experience is highly regarded.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical analysis into practical recommendations.
A relevant degree in Marketing, Multimedia, Communication or a related field, and/or relevant professional certifications.
Experience in higher education or other large, multi-brand digital environments will be highly regarded.
