Job Description
Job Summary
Synechron is seeking an experienced BI Engineer to design, develop, and optimize enterprise analytics solutions. This role focuses on delivering robust data models, reporting, and dashboards using modern BI tools, with a strong emphasis on data quality, governance, and performance. The successful candidate will collaborate with data engineers, analysts, product owners, and business stakeholders to enable actionable insights, drive data-driven decision making, and contribute to organizational growth and regulatory compliance.
Software Requirements
Required Skills (Essential)
Strong hands-on experience with Power BI reports and dashboards
Proficiency in SQL and relational database design, data modeling, and query optimization
Hands-on experience with SSRS development for report creation
Experience with data modeling concepts (star/snowflake) and metadata management
Advanced Excel proficiency for data analysis and presentation (optional but beneficial)
Experience with data visualization concepts and storytelling for leadership audiences
Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and working in cross-functional teams
Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and data security practices
Preferred Skills
Experience with ETL/ELT tools (e.g., SSIS, Azure Data Factory) and data integration
Knowledge of data lakes and cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
Experience with Power BI administration, dataflows, and deployment pipelines
Familiarity with NoSQL data stores and data warehousing concepts
Industry experience in banking/financial services or regulated sectors
Overall Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimize enterprise BI solutions including Power BI reports, SSRS reports, and data models
Collaborate with data engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable BI solutions
Build scalable data models and dashboards to support key business KPIs and regulatory reporting
Ensure data quality, accuracy, and governance across BI platforms
Develop and maintain documentation for data models, data flows, and reporting artifacts
Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and cross-functional governance discussions
Drive improvements in BI performance, security, and maintainability
Mentor junior BI developers and promote best practices in reporting and data storytelling

Essential: General cloud concepts and data security considerations
Frameworks and Libraries
Essential: Power BI reporting, SSRS development
Preferred: Power BI dataflows, DAX Studio, and other BI tooling ecosystems
Development Tools and Methodologies
Essential: Agile/Scrum practices; Jira/Confluence for requirements and tracking
Preferred: Data visualization tools (Tableau, Qlik) and BI administration tools
Security Protocols (if applicable)
Essential: Data privacy, access controls, and secure data handling
Preferred: Data governance frameworks and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA)
Experience Requirements
6+ years of experience in BI/Analytics with strong Power BI and SSRS capabilities
Proven track record delivering enterprise BI solutions and dashboards
Experience working with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment
Banking/financial services or regulated industry experience is a plus but not mandatory
Alternative pathways: substantial BI project experience, relevant certifications, or contributions to BI platforms
Day-to-Day Activities
Design, develop, and maintain Power BI and SSRS reports and dashboards
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into BI solutions
Build and optimize data models, data flows, and reporting structures
Validate data quality and ensure governance across BI environments
Prepare leadership-level dashboards and executive status reports
Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, and reviews
Create and maintain documentation for data models, pipelines, and reporting standards
Mentor junior BI colleagues and contribute to capability-building initiatives
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Certifications related to Power BI, data analytics, or BI technologies are advantageous
Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise BI solutions with Power BI and SSRS
