Job Description

Position:  Paraprofessional – Health Professions 

Location:  Sussex Technical High School  

Reports To:  Principal 

Starting Date:  August 2026 

Qualifications:   

  • Eligible for Delaware Paraprofessional Instructional Permit using one of the three options: 

  • High School Diploma and passing grade on Paraprofessional Assessment or  

  • Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher learning and accumulating at least 60 credits or  

  • Associate's degree or higher 

  • Experience in long-term care facility preferred.  

  • Prior experience working with high school aged students preferred.     

  • CPR Instructor certification preferred.    

  • Applicant must qualify as a Primary or Secondary Instructor with Delaware Health and Social Services  

    • Primary:   2 years registered nurse experience with at least one year of nurse employment in a provision of federal skilled nursing home facility services or supervision/teaching of students in Delaware, and 1 year of teaching adults or staff development or an approved "train the trainer" course, BLS certification, nursing license, ppd documentation 

    • Secondary: 2 years registered nurse experience or 3 years of licensed practical nurse experience, 1 year of teaching experience of adults or staff development or "train the trainer" cours, BLS certification, nursing license, ppd documentation 

Performance Responsibilities: 

  • Supports all teachers in the Health Professions Academy programs:   Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Athletic Health Care, and Dental Technologies.  

  • Supports teachers and students in the Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA) with preparation for competition and all necessary documentation required for events and travel.    

  • Assists teachers in the classroom and lab areas with the delivery of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.   

  • Substitutes for health professions teachers when necessary.    

  • Serve as CPR Instructor to students and staff.   

  • Assists in a variety of instructional activities with an individual or groups of students as assigned.  

  • Assists in supervising and monitoring students in the classroom including responding to student behavioral needs in ways which are appropriate and respectful to the student.  

  • Exhibits excellent organizational skills to support the classroom.  

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Terms of Employment:  Ten (10) month full-time position.   (185 days/year) 

 

Salary and Benefits: Pension and benefit eligible position.   Salary commensurate with verified educational level, qualifications, and experience according to state and local salary scales.   Approximately $35,000 – $54,000
