Chief Mechanic - F1 Evolution

Description
As Chief Mechanic, you will lead the preparation, build, and operation of F1 Evolution race cars, ensuring they are delivered to the same exacting standards expected across Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team. Leading a small team of mechanics and technicians, you will be responsible for ensuring cars are built, maintained, and operated to the highest levels of performance, reliability, and safety.
Working closely with the F1 Evolution Engineering team, drivers, and key suppliers, you will oversee all aspects of car preparation, garage operations, and trackside activities, driving operational excellence both in the workshop and at events. This is a leadership role requiring exceptional technical expertise, strong people management skills, and the ability to make confident decisions under pressure in a fast-paced motorsport environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of mechanics and technicians, ensuring work is completed to AMR standards and within required timeframes
- Ensure cars are built to the correct specification as directed by the F1 Evolution Engineering Department
- Manage and implement workshop and garage operational procedures, ensuring adherence across the team
- Communicate effectively with factory and trackside departments and colleagues
- Maintain a safe working environment in line with Health & Safety procedures at the factory and trackside
- Manage training requirements for mechanics and technicians in conjunction with internal training teams and external providers
- Manage Build Specifications, Build Manuals, and associated chassis build documentation to support the team
- Ensure all AMR build and service procedures are communicated and adhered to by mechanics and technicians
- Ensure all technical issues are reported to the F1 Evolution Chief Engineer
- Work effectively with Power Unit and Gearbox suppliers and their trackside personnel
- Support the development of junior mechanics and technicians as part of F1 Evolution's talent development programme
- Travel to all F1 Evolution events nationally and internationally
- Conduct pre- and post-session car crew briefings
- Communicate effectively and adhere to AMR radio protocols
- Attend and proactively contribute to all relevant F1 Evolution department meetings
- Maintain and develop personal skills and knowledge to ensure optimum performance
- Manage direct reports, including annual appraisals, performance management, and employee relations matters
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Previous experience as a Chief Mechanic, No. 1 Mechanic, or similar leadership role within F1 or another high-level motorsport environment (essential)
- Excellent working knowledge of F1 race cars, with hybrid-era experience desirable
- Thorough understanding of car set-up and test team requirements before, during, and after events
- Strong working knowledge of component allocations, engineering drawings, build specifications, and schedules
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, suppliers, and external partners
- Flexibility to travel extensively and work varied hours in line with the demands of the event calendar
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to drive company vehicles when required
- Self-motivated, with the ability to motivate and develop others in a challenging environment
- Ability to work calmly and confidently under pressure, delivering results within demanding timescales
- Strong written, verbal, and organisational skills
- High level of computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office applications
