Job Description

At IAG, we’re ready for you. We're the largest general insurance group in Australia and New Zealand. Our family of brands turns the IAG purpose of making your world a safer place into action by helping everyday Aussies and New Zealanders, supporting their ambitions and making insurance accessible.

Step into a rare opportunity to shape how behavioural science is practised at scale. As our Principal, Behavioural Science, you’ll bring deep expertise and curiosity to complex challenges, combining hands‑on delivery with technical leadership. You’ll guide how we design experiments, interpret data, and apply insights to real‑world problems that matter. This is a role for someone who enjoys both doing the work and raising the bar for others, helping a talented team deliver smarter, more impactful outcomes while evolving the future of behavioural science. This is a permanent full-time role based in Naarm (Melbourne) or Gadigal Country (Darling Park 2, Sydney).

What You'll Do
  • Lead end‑to‑end behavioural science projects, from initial diagnosis through to experimentation, evaluation, and translating insights into impactful business outcomes
  • Provide technical oversight by reviewing methodologies, strengthening experimental design, and ensuring consistent, high‑quality outputs across the behavioural science team
  • Design and run rigorous experiments, including randomised control trials, using suitable platforms and tools to deliver measurable and reliable results
  • Partner across teams to identify high‑value opportunities, shaping behavioural approaches to implement changes to customer touchpoints, balancing scientific rigour with real‑world constraints and priorities
  • Coach and uplift team capability by sharing knowledge, embedding best practice, and building excellence in behavioural design and experimentation
  • Contribute to advancing behavioural science practice, including using knowledge of human-AI interaction in behavioural design, and using AI to deliver innovations

What You'll Bring
  • 10+ years' experience applying behavioural science in commercial settings, translating theory into practical, measurable outcomes. Preferably in financial services or other highly regulated industry.
  • PhD in Behavioural Science, Judgement and Decision Making, or a closely related field, with strong academic grounding
  • Deep expertise in experimental design, including both conceptual development and hands‑on programming of experiments on third‑party platforms
  • Strong experience using platforms like Qualtrics, alongside advanced statistical analysis skills (multivariate and/or SEM analysis) using R or similar tools
  • Proven capability providing quality assurance and governance over behavioural science methods and team outputs
  • Experience collaborating with digital teams using agile ways of working to deliver integrated solutions
  • Hands‑on experience running complex framed‑field experiments or behavioural simulations
  • Ability to translate behavioural insights into practical, high‑quality design principles embedded within customer journeys and touchpoints
  • Knowledge of human and AI interaction, with the ability to apply emerging research insights in a commercial setting
  • Practical experience leveraging AI within behavioural science methods to drive innovation and impact
  • Strength in promoting and championing behavioural science, influencing a broad range of stakeholders across the organisation

What We Offer
  • Boosted superannuation with 13% as standard.
  • 20 days annual leave + 5 days MyLeave (extra leave for what’s important to you).
  • Work from home and many more flexibility options with myFlex.
  • Up to 50% off personal insurance, including home and motor insurance.
  • Partner discounts on private health insurance, tech & appliances, and many more.
  • Industry-leading 20 weeks paid parental leave.
  • Access to LinkedIn Learning, the award-winning IAG Academy, study assistance and secondment opportunities.
