Who We Are

The Office of the Commandant (OOC) serves and supports departments within the Corps of Cadets that are critically engaged in all aspects of student development and the delivery of key services and support.  OOC departments work to create environments that help students grow, develop, learn, and enhance their experience at Texas A&M by providing leadership opportunities, experiential education, and connections beyond the classroom.  This position will be part of a centralized team that supports the active recruiting efforts of future cadets and their families to Texas A&M and the Corps of Cadets.

What We Want

The Corps of Cadets Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEA) serves as the senior enlisted mentor and principal Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) for the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. The SEA provides leadership, instruction, coaching, and oversight to more than 2,300 full-time cadet members of the Corps. In addition, the SEA consults with the Commandant and staff on operational and training matters related to organizational culture, accountability, and mission execution.

Responsibilities

Development & Training

  • Develop, implement, and support leadership education and training initiatives aligned with the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets mission.

  • Monitor professional development and training of cadet organizations, ensuring adherence to Corps standards and leadership expectations.

  • Assist senior staff with the administration and execution of the Corps of Cadets accountability system, including leadership accountability, standards enforcement and advising on corrective actions.

Cadet Organization Mentoring and Coordination

  • Work directly with cadet Noncommissioned Officers to develop a clear understanding of NCO roles, responsibilities, and authorities within a structured military organization.

  • Mentor and guide cadets in the development of leadership competencies, personal and corporate accountability, and professional conduct.

  • Coach, teach, and advise cadets on military leadership fundamentals, discipline, ethics, evaluations, and related topics to support effective command climate and unit cohesion.

Departmental Duties

  • Serve on assigned departmental and university committees and participate in other professional development opportunities.

  • May serve as primary or secondary advisor to Corps special unit, club, team or other recognized student organization.

  • Other Duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 10 years of military experience as a Senior Enlisted Leader/Advisor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.

  • Recent active-duty service.

  • Prior experience with a federal service academy and/or military college/school. 

  • Previous experience with an ROTC program. 

  • Experience working in a structured recruit or officer training program. 

  • Significant experience with mentorship.

  • Significant experience with drill & ceremony, parade activities, and inspections.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal form.

  • Ability to conceptualize, plan, and manage complex projects from start to finish with limited supervision.

  • Experience in facilitating, instructing, teaching, and presenting. 

  • Collaborative work style.

  • Ability to work effectively with all university constituents.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to wear military uniform within standards.

  • Standing for long periods of time. 

  • Ability to lift light or moderate objects. 

  • Ability to work indoors/outdoors, with occasional exposure to extreme weather.
