What we want
The Data Analyst, under general supervision, gathers, compiles, analyzes, interprets, reports data and identifies patterns. This role will work within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital’s (VMTH) Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system and partner closely with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and FBS Financial Analyst to assess operational trends, support pricing strategies, identify revenue opportunities, and ensure that EMR data accurately reflects clinical activity and hospital operations.

Schedule/Location: College Station, TX/Full-Time. This position may require working on university holidays and/or weekends.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s or above in Business, Health Care Administration, or Finance
Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and operation sources
Ability to translate raw data into meaningful insights that support decision making.

Responsibilities
Data Collection and Analysis: Collects and validates data from the EMR and operational sources. Performs data entry corrections in the EMR system related to invoices and payments, including adjustments and appropriate allocation, to ensure accurate account balances and reporting. Runs, compiles, and delivers monthly reports to the A/R team for collections and state hold processes in accordance with established timelines and requirements. Translates raw data into meaningful insights that support decision making. Compiles data into usable reports. Troubleshoot data discrepancies and reporting issues by investigating source data, identifying root causes, and coordinating corrections with appropriate stakeholders. Prepares comparative and historical analyses to support pricing reviews, service line development, and operational planning.
Database Management and Maintenance: Maintains and updates datasets related to fee schedules, charge codes, service catalogs, and operational workflows. Extracts and queries EMR to support analysis of clinical activity, revenue trends, and workflow performance. Constructs, maintains, and refines reports and data dashboards for visualization and tracking. Supports continuous improvement initiatives focused on data integrity, reporting efficiency, standardization, and internal controls within EMR system. Maintains documentation and data archives to support long term trend analysis and audit needs.
Reporting and Presentation: Serve as the primary point of contact for EMR system report requests, including validating, and distributing reports related to fees, products, and general operational and financial data. Prepares, maintains, and presents historical and comparative data to illustrate trends and patterns. Delivers technical information, insights, and findings in an easily digestible manner for audiences of varying technical expertise. Develops educational materials and presentations to help clinical and administrative teams understand data trends and operational impacts.
Project Support and Coordination: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Finance, Operations, Clinical/Service teams, IT) to ensure EMR system products configuration and reporting meet business needs. Communicate project updates, risks, and issues to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner; address concerns, manage expectations, and promote high levels of customer satisfaction. Provides data support and technical expertise to teams developing projects with data-specific requirements. Participates and contributes to unit meetings and on committees as appropriate to job duties. Assists in planning and executing projects, focusing on creative implementation under supervision.
Fee, Product, & Tag Management: Review and maintain fee and product nomenclature within the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with organizational standards, coordinate updates and changes with appropriate stakeholders. Coordinate with service areas to obtain request information, documentation, and approvals to support fee analysis, requests, and changes, ensuring updates are accurately reflected in the EMR system. Coordinate and manage tags used in the EMR system for reporting, including establishing naming conventions, promoting proper use, and maintaining supporting documentation to ensure consistent reporting practices. Maintain clear documentation of report definitions, tag logic, fee/product naming standards, and reporting procedures to support continuity, auditability, and knowledge transfer.
