Technical Lead -Epic EMR/EHR Integration

We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead for Epic EMR/EHR Integration to architect, design, and lead interoperability solutions across clinical systems. This role requires deep expertise in Epic interoperability frameworks—such as HL7, FHIR, APIs, and Epic-specific tools—along with strong leadership in guiding technical teams, managing integration roadmaps, and ensuring compliance with healthcare data exchange standards.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on technical knowledge, strong communication skills, and experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Lead the design and development of integrations between Epic and internal/external systems.
• Define technical architecture using Epic interoperability tools (Bridges, Interconnect, APIs, HL7, FHIR).
• Provide technical supervision, code reviews, and guidance to integration engineers.
• Ensure all integration solutions follow best practices for security, performance, and scalability.
• Translate clinical and operational requirements into technical designs and workflows.

Epic Integration & Interoperability

• Develop and maintain HL7 interfaces using Epic Bridges and related tools.
• Work with Epic Interconnect, FHIR APIs, and RESTful services for modern integration approaches.
• Support ADT, Orders, Results, Clinical Documentation, and other common Epic interface types.
• Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues across environments (test, stage, prod).
• Ensure HIPAA, HITRUST, and regulatory compliance for data exchange.
• Work with project managers, analysts, and business stakeholders to define timelines and deliverables.
• Manage technical delivery for integration projects from planning through go-live.
• Communicate technical plans and progress to leadership in a clear, structured manner.
• Develop documentation, technical diagrams, and operational procedures.
• Conduct root-cause analysis and implement preventative measures.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Epic EMR/EHR integrations.
• Epic certification or proficiency in one or more: 
• Epic Bridges
• Epic Interconnect
• FHIR/HL7
• Strong knowledge of HL7 v2.x messaging, FHIR, REST APIs, JSON, XML.
• Strong understanding of healthcare workflow and interoperability standards (HIPAA, C-CDA, X12).
• Proficiency with scripting/programming languages (Python, Java, JavaScript, or similar).
• Proven experience mentoring engineers or leading technical teams.
• Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud technologies (Azure/AWS/GCP) for healthcare integrations.
• Experience integrating with medical devices
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD, Git-based workflow.
