Job Description

Position Summary

Works under limited direction to be responsible for installation and maintenance of plumbing systems.

Pay Grade: 51H

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of plumbing experience after acquiring Journeyman license.
  • High school or possess a GED.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION; TRAINING; AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
     

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage
  • systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.
  • Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings using hand tools and
  • power tools.
  • Cuts and threads pipes using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe threading machine.
  • Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of various metals and non-metals.
  • Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing, mending, and opening systems as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
     

KSAs

  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of
  • plumbing tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of metal and non-metal piping and their properties.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Knowledge of measurements.
  • Ability to interpret building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
     

Physical Requirements

  • Must pass a physical examination.
     

Special Requirements

  • Must pass a criminal history background check.
  • Must be able to work in a jail environment.

The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service employees. This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department. The residency exemption for public safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions with Sheriff’s Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department.
