Location: South Campus Commons at The University of Maryland College Park, MD
Compensation: $20.50 - $21.50 per hour and a comprehensive benefits package
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary
The Cleaning Services Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of residential buildings, common areas, and surrounding grounds within a student apartment community. This position plays a key role in creating a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained living environment for residents, guests, and campus partners.
Responsibilities include routine cleaning, sanitation, waste and recycling collection, event support, inspections, and special project work throughout the community. The Cleaning Services Technician is expected to complete assignments efficiently and professionally while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain residential common areas, including hallways, stairwells, elevators, lounges, offices, public restrooms, trash rooms, recycling rooms, and other shared spaces
- Sweep, scrub, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect assigned interior and exterior areas to ensure high standards of cleanliness and presentation
- Clean carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture, windows, blinds, walls, ceilings, lighting fixtures, doors, and woodwork as needed
- Empty waste and recycling containers and collect debris throughout the site, including building entrances and surrounding grounds
- Replenish restroom and cleaning supplies to maintain properly stocked and sanitary facilities
- Clean resident units when assigned and assist with apartment turnover preparation as needed during move-in and move-out periods
- Complete all assigned housekeeping checklists, cleaning schedules, and project assignments accurately and on time
Safety, Sustainability & Inventory
- Follow all safety procedures and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Support university and community sustainability initiatives through proper waste sorting, recycling collection, and responsible chemical usage
- Maintain custodial equipment, carts, tools, and supplies in clean and organized condition
- Monitor inventory levels of custodial supplies and communicate replenishment needs to supervisors in a timely manner
- Ensure assigned areas consistently meet community appearance, cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards
Customer Service & Teamwork
- Respond to resident, student, staff, and guest requests in a professional, respectful, and customer-focused manner
- Foster a positive and collaborative team environment through reliability, communication, and a willingness to support operational needs
- Assist with securing buildings as assigned, including locking/unlocking doors and reporting suspicious activity or safety concerns
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support community operations and resident satisfaction

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- 2-3 years of housekeeping, custodial, facilities, hospitality, or residential community experience
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, teamwork, and a positive, service-oriented attitude in all interactions
- Ability to communicate clearly, both written and in speech.
- Must be punctual, organized, and able to meet deadlines.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to perform basic computer operations.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
