HSE Specialist / Associate Manager

Job Description

Serve as the primary HSE presence embedded within operations at the LaGrange site, executing day-to-day health, safety, and environmental programs in close partnership with production and engineering teams. This role is accountable for incident prevention, regulatory compliance, hazard control, and driving a proactive safety culture on the floor, operating in close alignment with the site HSE Manager. 

  • Execute and maintain HSE programs across operations, ensuring day-to-day compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory standards as well as company HS&E policies and standards. 

  • Lead incident investigations for near-misses, injuries, and unsafe conditions conducting root cause analysis, developing corrective actions, tracking them to closure, and sharing learnings with the broader operations team. 

  • Develop and deliver HSE training and employee engagement programs tailored to operational needs; benchmark and reapply best practices from other sites and continuously assess performance to recommend improvements. 

  • Lead hazard identification, risk assessment, and control efforts across operations. Ensure hazard findings are communicated, tracked, and resolved in a timely manner. 

  • Support the site Industrial Hygiene & Safety program by ensuring IH&S standards are upheld within operations in coordination with the site IH&S resource. 

  • Support the site Environmental program by implementing environmental procedures within operations, delivering required environmental training, and partnering with the site Environmental resource to maintain compliance with air, water, and waste requirements. 

  • Track and report HSE performance metrics, regulatory data, and progress toward site targets. 

  • Partner directly with production and engineering teams to deliver HSE-ready projects, including updated procedures, permits, registrations, and programs, ensuring HSE requirements are integrated from design through execution. 

  • Actively participate in the site HSE DWS Center of Excellence (CoE) team, contributing to capability building efforts, sharing operational insights, and supporting the implementation of CoE initiatives within the production environment. 

  • Drive a proactive safety culture through visible leadership presence on the floor, employee engagement, and consistent role modeling of safe behaviors at all levels of the organization. 

  • Other related duties/tasks as assigned. 

  • Leadership - Ability to align and lead teams to achieve goals. Coaches and trains. Demonstrates ability to work well with others. 

  • Communication Skills - Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of site personnel, vendors, contract workers, and regulatory agencies. 

  • Ability to take initiative, recognize problems, find the root cause through a logical process and implement change to correct the situation. 

  • Ability to generate and execute a plan such as a work plan to meet objectives, project plan, corrective action plan, etc. 

  • Demonstrates ability to be self-directed and self-starting, working with minimal or no supervision at times. Adaptability to frequent changes in job priorities, locations and activities. 

  • Computer Skills - Working knowledge in computers including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Has the ability to enter data into existing programs which may involve working with calculations. 

  • Demonstrated role modeling of safe behaviors and meeting base safety expectations. 

  • Degreed professional preferred in HS&E, Engineering, or a STEM-related field; professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM may be substituted for a degree in the HS&E field. 

  • 1.5+ years' experience in health & safety, environmental, industrial hygiene, or related role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment. 

  • Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. 

  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, EPA requirements, and applicable industry standards; experience with incident investigation methodologies (e.g., RCCA, 5-Why, Fault Tree).
