ISL’s Building Enclosure Team proudly tackles some of the most interesting buildings projects in and around Calgary and Canmore as well as supporting work across all ISL offices.  In practice, that work spans condition assessments across campgrounds in provincial parks, skylight glazing investigations at major water treatment facilities, foundation waterproofing in the Yukon, re-roofs for First Nations public works buildings, facade restoration on heritage structures and new construction consulting on custom homes and non-market multi-family housing. The breadth is intentional, and it is one of the defining strengths of this team. What you can expect from working with us is: Variety of Clients – we work with various institutional, industrial and commercial clients, property managers, condominium boards, and government clients such as Parks Canada and Alberta Forestry and Parks. Interesting Work – some of our current projects include: Façade restoration projects Plaza and roof restoration projects Building Enclosure Condition Assessments Historical building restoration projects New construction enclosure consulting Luxury custom home consulting Ongoing Development - we have a culture of mentorship and work to set up internal training opportunities to help our people grow their technical skills  About the Role You will be introduced to the full lifecycle of enclosure projects — from initial condition assessments and risk identification through design, contract administration and field review. You will work alongside experienced team members, supporting clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams, and building your technical skills on every file. Responsibilities include: Assisting in the preparation of design packages including drawings and specifications Field review of work in progress to confirm general conformance to the design documents Review documentation (e.g. architectural drawings) to identify areas of risk for water ingress, air leakage, and condensation General contract administration tasks – change orders, site instructions, certificates for payment, etc. Assisting with investigations and reports documenting existing conditions and evaluation of future risks Supporting Building Enclosure Condition Assessments across a range of building types and sectors Other related duties as assigned Who We Are Looking For As a new member of ISL’s Building Enclosure team, this future ISLer models our organizational values of Curiosity, Unity, Integrity and Excellence.  Curiosity You ask “why is this failing?” before determining how to address it You have a genuine interest in building science underlying enclosure performance, vapour drive, thermal bridging, pressure differentials, and you are motivated to keep developing that knowledge Unity You are effective working alongside architects, contractors and other disciplines, recognizing that sound enclosure design is resolved at the interfaces between systems You communicate clearly, follow through on commitments and make it easier for the people around you to do their best work Integrity You take ownership of your investigations, reports, field observations and design details You document accurately and write with clarity, producing deliverables that are genuinely useful to the people who rely on them Excellence You take pride in assessments and designs that clients can act on with confidenceYou approach every project, whether a straightforward re-roof or a complex heritage facade restoration, as an opportunity to deliver something of lasting va Ready to Apply? Your application should include: Degree in civil or structural engineering, building or architectural science, EIT or a combination of education and work experience  0–3 years of related experience (new grads welcome if genuinely enclosure‑interested) Strong interest in building enclosure / building science (façades, roofs, waterproofing, air/vapour barriers, glazing systems) Aptitude to have strong technical knowledge of building enclosure design and construction principles Experience preparing design packages including drawings and specifications Ability to solve problems using past experience and building science principals Skill in building condition assessments and report writing What ISL Offers We are committed to supporting our people across all dimensions of wellbeing — professional, personal and financial.
