Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.
The kiskinwahamakew ATEP Academic Learning Facilitator works collaboratively as a member of the kiskinwahamakewak team and the larger ATEP support team. Reporting to the Director of ATEP, the kisinwahamakew works to recruit applicants into the program and then works directly with ATEP students to facilitate their academic performance and success as pre-service teachers. The kiskinwahamakew ATEP Academic Learning Facilitator also provides guidance and referrals, as necessary, to appropriate academic, mental health, and wellness supports. The role of the kiskinwahamakew ATEP Academic Learning Facilitator is to develop strong trust relationships among ATEP staff and students, maintaining regular contact and providing a safe space for ATEP’s students. The majority of the students in the program are Indigenous students who come from a variety of backgrounds and with varied levels of preparedness. The kiskinwahamakew ATEP Academic Learning Facilitator is able to assess and differentiate individual ATEP student needs, develop strategies to support effective learning and achievement, and monitor overall outcomes.
- Cultural grounding: Center Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing throughout all interactions with students, staff, and faculty, building cultural awareness and understanding; facilitate opportunities for Indigenous perspectives and cultures to integrate throughout program requirements, instruction, and experiences; and advocate for students, when necessary, to honour and recognize cultural diversity and the lived experiences of ATEP's student body.
- Formal and informal support: Provide academic and cultural support and encouragement to students on campus and online, including engaging with Elders; establish and maintain interpersonal relationships that build mutual trust; and maintain frequent, regular contact with students using multiple formats to communicate (Canvas, email, newsletters, office hours, etc.).
- Differentiated academic support: Aid in the development of student strengths by identifying areas for academic and professional growth; actively maintain knowledge of ATEP course content and program requirements; provide ongoing opportunities for reflection, feedback, and growth to facilitate students' confidence and capacity for success.
- Record administration and professional communication: Develop and maintain accurate student support records; monitor students' academic progress to support timely program completion; maintain up-to-date knowledge of campus- and community-based services to ensure appropriate referrals; develop and execute events such as orientations, presentations, and information sessions, both internal and external; take an active role in recruiting efforts.
- Development and growth of the pre-service teacher: Identify professional development (PD) topics and activities to support learning opportunities for pre-service teacher development; plan and deliver PD both online and in person.
- Internal and external relationships: Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with external stakeholders in Indigenous communities and among schools and education authorities, and with colleagues throughout the university; prepare reports, presentations, and information for internal and external audiences; and seek partnerships with external stakeholders to support opportunities for student and program growth.
Education and understanding:
- Bachelor of Education or higher
- Professional teaching certification
- K-12 teaching experience
- Demonstrated understanding of the role of a professional K-12 educator and the Teaching Quality Standard
- Lived experience and a solid understanding of Indigenous perspectives, cultures, and values
- Knowledge of Indigenous protocol, knowledge systems, and practices
- Understanding of Indigenous communities

- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff and students
- Ability to lead, prioritize, plan, and complete projects to meet deadlines
- Ability to mentor students to facilitate academic and personal success
Skills:
- Written and oral presentations, facilitation, and active listening skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop trust relationships
- Strong proficiency in computer technologies including G Suite, social media platforms, Canvas, Campus Solutions, and others
- Knowledge of ATEP and University of Alberta policies and programming is an asset.

This position offers a comprehensive benefits package with an annual salary range of $63,465 to $87,276.
The terms and conditions of this appointment are governed by Schedule E of the Collective Agreement between the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta and the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta.
