Underwriter Consultant (Worker Compensation)
Job Description
For over 165 years, CGU has been insuring ambition. Part of Insurance Australia Group (known as IAG), we’re a leading commercial, rural and personal lines insurer and a top-three provider of workers compensation insurance.
Build your underwriting capability in a role that’s focused, commercial, and close to the customer. As a Workers Compensation Underwriter in our WA Direct team, you’ll support a diverse portfolio of small businesses across Western Australia, underwriting policies directly with customers.
This role is ideal if you enjoy problem‑solving, building confidence on the phone, and managing a steady flow of renewal and new business activity. You’ll spend most of your time reviewing upcoming renewals, responding to customer enquiries, and assessing new business opportunities - all while applying sound underwriting judgement within clear guidelines. It’s a great opportunity to deepen your Workers Compensation experience in a supportive, hands‑on environment.
This is a permanent full-time role based in Boorloo (Perth).
What You'll Do
• Underwrite Workers Compensation new business and renewals within delegated authority and underwriting guidelines.
• Manage a direct customer portfolio, responding to phone and email enquiries and supporting customers through the underwriting process.
• Review upcoming renewals and assess risk information to make sound pricing and acceptance decisions.
• Work closely with internal claims and credit teams to resolve queries and support accurate policy outcomes.
• Process underwriting documentation, adjustments, and renewals accurately and within legislative timeframes.
• Monitor portfolio performance and provide insights on pricing, risk trends, and customer needs.
What You'll Bring
• Experience in Workers Compensation underwriting or general insurance, or a strong foundation in insurance operations.
• Confidence engaging directly with customers over the phone and via email.
• Sound judgement and attention to detail when assessing risk and applying underwriting guidelines.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills, with a calm and practical approach.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Willingness to learn and grow underwriting capability if you’re earlier in your Workers Compensation journey.
What We Offer
• Boosted superannuation with 13% as standard.
• 20 days annual leave + 5 days MyLeave (extra leave for what’s important to you).
• Work from home and many more flexibility options with myFlex.
• Up to 50% off personal insurance, including home and motor insurance.
• Partner discounts on private health insurance, tech & appliances, and many more.
• Industry-leading 20 weeks paid parental leave.
