Job Description
Purpose:
To support the daily operations of the emergency housing shelter by assisting staff and engaging respectfully with residents to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet residents and visitors in a warm, professional manner
- Assist with check-in and distribution of linens, hygiene kits, or personal items
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization in common areas (e.g., lounge, kitchen, restrooms)
- Provide general support during mealtimes, recreational activities, or group events
- Restock supplies and report low inventory to shelter staff
- Observe and report any safety or behavioral concerns to on-duty staff
- Offer encouragement and a listening ear, while maintaining clear boundaries
Qualifications:
- Dependable, compassionate, and respectful of individuals from all backgrounds
- Comfortable in dynamic, fast-paced environments
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to follow direction and adhere to shelter policies
- Willingness to learn about trauma-informed care and crisis response
- Must be at least 18 years old; background check may be required
Time Commitment:
Minimum 2–3 hours per week; evening and weekend shifts often needed.
Training Provided:
Orientation includes shelter operations, safety procedures, confidentiality, boundaries, and communication practices.
