Description: School Social Worker / Family School Facilitator
190-day position

Salary: Base $50,000 (Salary is adjusted according to verified experience and degree level)

Available: School Year 2026-2027

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Operations

Job Goal: To act as a liaison to bring about needed changes within individual students, their families, groups and community systems in order to facilitate the educational process. Also to be public relations ambassadors in the positive aspects of the school to the community. To exhibit best practices and effective strategies in school social work.

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Social Work or equivalent preferred
  • South Carolina Board of Social Work Examiners License or willingness to obtain
  • Experience in family casework preferred

appropriate and acceptable


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop better understanding of the social and emotional needs of the individual by interpreting his/her total environment in preparing social histories
    • Conduct conferences with parents, teachers, school psychologists and administrators
    • Make home visits
    • Provide and evaluate services related to problems in family functioning
    • Provide copies of social histories for school psychologists, contact persons in proper schools, and retain a copy for personal files
  • Assist multidisciplinary team members in understanding the psychosocial and cultural experience of the child in the family and community
  • Mobilizing families to utilize available supports e.g. extended family, community groups, friends, churches, public agencies and programs etc.
  • Helping the student and the family to become familiar with services offered by the school district and community agencies and acting as a liaison for these services
    • Provide parents with information, directions, telephone numbers, and instructions regarding agencies to meet their needs
    • Refer school personnel to students or vice-versa
    • Work with consultants and offer assistance through education awareness and intervention with families
    • Collaboration and resource development with community agencies
  • Provide assistance in cases of child neglect and abuse
    • Reference agent for school
    • Provide assistance in reporting to proper agency
    • Maintain appropriate documentation and follow-up
  • Provide information to school personnel, parents and community agencies to enhance the student's educational progress
    • Telephone conference and feedback to person(s) making referrals � verbal or written reports
  • Documentation of services
    • Records kept on each referral
    • Weekly 5-10 report
    • To provide case management services to ensure cost effective utilization and coordination of services
    • Provide goal information and effectiveness of service
  • On-going program assessment and evaluation
    • Feedback from school and community or program services for planning purposes
    • Annual employee evaluation conducted by the Darlington County School District
    • Keep school and community informed of program progress and changes
  • Will show evidence of professional growth, development and management skills and will honor the professional Code of Ethics
    • On-going staff development meetings
    • Attend state and regional meetings relative to job role
    • Obtain continuing education hours required annually to renew license
  • Perform other duties as assigned
