Primary Purpose:

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Cosmetology & Barbering Enterprise Manager to lead the development and daily operation of a student-run cosmetology and barbering enterprise housed at the Guthrie Center. This individual will play a pivotal role in establishing and growing a professional salon and barbershop environment that integrates cosmetology, barbering, customer service, and entrepreneurship. The ideal candidate will combine industry expertise in cosmetology and/or barbering with a passion for entrepreneurship, program development, and hands-on instruction. This is a unique opportunity to build a dynamic, industry-aligned program that provides students with real-world salon experience and clear pathways toward licensure, employment, and post-secondary success in the beauty and grooming industries. 

 

Qualifications/Skills:

 

Education/Certification:

  • Valid CTE teaching certification or the ability to obtain certification preferred.
  • Active Texas Cosmetology Operator or Barber license, or ability to obtain appropriate credentials.
  • Instructor or dual licensure in cosmetology and barbering.
  • Industry certifications from recognized beauty organizations or brands.
  • Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of cosmetology and barbering practices, salon operations, sanitation, and licensure requirements.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate within an educational setting while maintaining industry-level expectations.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Passion for mentoring students and guiding them toward licensure and career success.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in cosmetology, barbering, or related beauty industry fields.
  • Experience developing or managing a business or enterprise, including budgeting, marketing, and customer service.
  • Experience managing a salon, barbershop, or school-based cosmetology program.
  • Background in entrepreneurship or small business management.
  • Experience with work-based learning programs, internships, or apprenticeships.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities:

Salon & Barbershop Operations / Enterprise Management:

  • Oversee daily operations of the student-run salon and barbershop, including scheduling, client services, sanitation, inventory, and equipment management.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive business plan for the cosmetology and barbering enterprise, including operational procedures, sustainability strategies, financial projections, pricing models, and marketing plans.
  • Establish and manage cosmetology and barbering service offerings, ensuring alignment with state licensure requirements, industry standards, and student learning outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain operational policies related to client intake, service delivery, cash handling, and customer experience.
  • Manage the enterprise budget, including tracking revenue, expenses, and securing funding, sponsorships, or grants to support program growth.
  • Foster a safe, professional, and realistic salon environment that promotes student accountability, leadership, and entrepreneurial thinking.
  • Ensure full compliance with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) requirements and all health and safety regulations.

Curriculum Development & Instructional Support:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, hands-on enterprise curriculum covering cosmetology and barbering services, salon management, customer service, and entrepreneurship.
  • Collaborate with instructors to design skills-based labs, client service rotations, and performance assessments aligned with licensure standards and industry expectations.
  • Continuously review and update curriculum and enterprise practices to reflect current trends, techniques, tools, and technologies in cosmetology and barbering.
  • Provide instructional support, coaching, and professional development to faculty to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, industry-aligned instruction.
  • Establish and maintain high expectations for student professionalism, technical skill, safety, and customer service.

Student Recruitment & Program Marketing:

  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract students into cosmetology and barbering pathways.
  • Create promotional materials such as flyers, brochures, social media content, and videos highlighting services, student work, licensure outcomes, and career opportunities.
  • Collaborate with high school counselors, campus leadership, and the district communications team to promote program awareness and enrollment.
  • Organize open houses, community salon days, tours, and demonstrations to showcase facilities and real-world learning experiences for students and families.

Work-Based Learning & Industry Partnerships:

  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with local salons, barbershops, spas, and beauty industry professionals.
  • Develop internships, apprenticeships, job-shadowing, and work-based learning opportunities aligned to cosmetology and barbering pathways.
  • Coordinate guest artists, brand educators, and industry mentors to support instruction and student exposure.
  • Implement systems to track student work hours, service completion, licensure readiness, and career placement outcomes.
  • Ensure students gain authentic, hands-on experience that mirrors industry expectations

Collaboration & Community Engagement:

  • Collaborate with fellow educators, campus staff, and district leadership to align cosmetology and barbering programs with broader CTE initiatives.
  • Attend industry events, trade shows, competitions, and career fairs to build partnerships and stay current with industry trends.
  • Partner with community businesses to support program sustainability, student employment, and postsecondary transitions.
  • Work with the district communications team and social media platforms to highlight student achievements, program milestones, and community impact.

Program Evaluation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Regularly assess program effectiveness using student performance data, licensure outcomes, customer feedback, and industry partner input.
  • Adjust curriculum, instructional strategies, and enterprise operations based on data and emerging trends.
  • Ensure alignment with state licensure requirements and industry certifications in cosmetology and barbering.
  • Maintain accurate documentation required for audits, licensure compliance, and CTE reporting.

Campus Safety:

  • Support campus safety protocols during salon and barbershop operations.
  • Ensure students adhere to sanitation, equipment, chemical handling, and personal safety standards at all times.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing (ability to lift up to 50lbs)
  • Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desk, and other classroom equipment.
