Reports to: District Lead Nurse/Substitute Coordinator

Daily Pay: $82 Per Day (LVN); $90 Per Day (RN)

Primary Purpose:
The Substitute Nurse provides health services and minor first aid to students. LVN’s work under the guidance and direction of a licensed Registered Nurse to maintain routine clinical record and provide minor first aide care
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Valid LVN/RN license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing; RN license preferred
- Current CPR certification
- Current AED certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects; and basic first aid
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- File maintenance skills
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
Preferred Experience:
One year experience in health-related position, including contact with school-age children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide temporary emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures.
- Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached)
- Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures; maintain accurate log of medications dispensed.
- Assist with screening activities including measuring height and weight.
- Escort students to and from health room and assist students with disabilities as necessary.
- Use universal precautions procedures when cleaning all body spills and providing care.
- Maintain daily log of health office activities, including reportable accidents, communicable disease data, and referrals to school nurse.
- Record information on student health records.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area.
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Keep nurse's office clean and sanitary.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- LVN’s will refer any nursing care questions to the RN supervisor which are outside the LVN scope of practice.

Thermometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, vision screening equipment, basic clinic equipment, and copier.
