Job Description

The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) is a dedicated museum that showcases the exquisite artefacts from Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums in research, exhibitions, education and public programmes. The museum comprises 7 800 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions on Palace Museum’s collections of paintings, calligraphy, antiquities and historical objects, as well as thematic displays on world cultures and civilisations.

You will be responsible for:

  • conceptualising, developing and executing engaging learning and public programmes, such as talk series, international symposiums, courses, screenings, and workshops for a variety of audiences;
  • working closely with curatorial, learning, and design teams to develop museum interpretive strategies and contents that create meaningful museum experience;
  • contributing to the planning, research, development and coordination of the Museum’s learning and engagement initiatives;
  • undertaking administrative duties including maintaining accurate records, budgets, schedules and contacts, preparing sponsorship proposals, presentations, and reports; and
  • performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by HKPM.

You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree, preferably an MA or higher education in museum studies, humanities, social sciences, history, arts, education, art education, cultural management or an equivalent field;
  • have a minimum of 8 years of experience of managing sizeable teams with diverse responsibilities in learning, interpretation, public engagement programmes within the arts, cultural, or educational sectors; experience in managing complex and large-scale projects and events is an advantage;
  • have proven ability to engage effectively with a broad spectrum of audiences;
  • have strong leadership, interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills;
  • demonstrate a collaborative mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
  • be self-motivated, organised, and possess strong problem-solving skills;
  • demonstrate expertise in developing content strategy and learning contents;
  • have up-to-date knowledge of best practices, emerging theories, methodologies and innovative technologies in museum education and future learning;
  • be available to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays, for events and programmes if necessary; and
  • possess proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese; knowledge of Putonghua will be an advantage.
