TITLE: Special Education Coordinator

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Holds a valid, appropriate Kentucky certificate for the position
  2. Has three years experience in special education
  3. Is thoroughly knowledgeable of IDEA as amended and of all related administrative regulations
  4. Has demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with parents, staff, students and community

REPORTS TO: Director Special Education Services 

JOB GOAL: To assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of special education programs.

To assist in providing leadership and assistance to administrators and instructional personnel in areas related to special education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To be knowledgeable of information and all legal requirements regarding current IDEA and all related administrative regulations relevant to staff
  2. Assist in implementation and monitoring of local, state and national guidelines, regulations and policies regarding special education
  3. Establish and supervise procedures for identification, placement, evaluation and reevaluation of students with disabilities including students with disabilities in private/parochial settings
  4. Collaborate with district administrators and supervisors in monitoring the total special education program, curriculum, procedures and individual student needs and achievement and recommend changes as needed
  5. Supervise Child Find activities as required for continuous and appropriate identification of children with disabilities
  6. Support and communicate the district-wide philosophy of least restrictive environment for serving special needs students to school administration, staff, parents and community members
  7. Encourage the development, publication and use of research-based instructional materials by special education and therapy staff
  8. Collaborate with building principals and other district personnel in the improvement of individual staff competencies
  9. Observe teachers in their classrooms upon request of principals and offer assistance for the enhancement of the teaching-learning situation

 

  1. Perform other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as requested by the Director of Special Education
