TITLE: Special Education Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Holds a valid, appropriate Kentucky certificate for the position
- Has three years experience in special education
- Is thoroughly knowledgeable of IDEA as amended and of all related administrative regulations
- Has demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with parents, staff, students and community
REPORTS TO: Director Special Education Services
JOB GOAL: To assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of special education programs.
To assist in providing leadership and assistance to administrators and instructional personnel in areas related to special education.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To be knowledgeable of information and all legal requirements regarding current IDEA and all related administrative regulations relevant to staff
- Assist in implementation and monitoring of local, state and national guidelines, regulations and policies regarding special education
- Establish and supervise procedures for identification, placement, evaluation and reevaluation of students with disabilities including students with disabilities in private/parochial settings
- Collaborate with district administrators and supervisors in monitoring the total special education program, curriculum, procedures and individual student needs and achievement and recommend changes as needed
- Supervise Child Find activities as required for continuous and appropriate identification of children with disabilities
- Support and communicate the district-wide philosophy of least restrictive environment for serving special needs students to school administration, staff, parents and community members
- Encourage the development, publication and use of research-based instructional materials by special education and therapy staff
- Collaborate with building principals and other district personnel in the improvement of individual staff competencies
- Observe teachers in their classrooms upon request of principals and offer assistance for the enhancement of the teaching-learning situation
- Perform other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as requested by the Director of Special Education
