ALM / Law Business Research
The role spans four interconnected areas:
- Growth & market strategy — identifying and sizing expansion opportunities across segments, geographies, and product categories within our B2B information, events, and digital media portfolio.
- AI and product innovation — defining where AI and data can create differentiated propositions for our customers, working with product and editorial teams to bring ideas to life.
- Strategic partnerships — sourcing, structuring, and developing partnerships that open new distribution, content, or technology pathways; this is a meaningful and growing part of the role.
- Pricing, monetization & commercial strategy — building models and frameworks on subscription economics, pricing architecture, bundling, and customer lifetime value to improve commercial performance across the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structured workstreams on the group's most important strategic initiatives, managing scope, analysis, stakeholder coordination, and delivery of board-level recommendations.
- Run market, customer, and competitive analyses in B2B information, events, and digital media — synthesizing findings into crisp insight that actually changes decisions.
- Develop and stress-test strategic partnership opportunities: identify potential partners, define the value exchange, and support commercial negotiation and structuring.
- Build commercially grounded models and frameworks — market sizing, scenario planning, pricing analysis, customer lifetime value — to underpin investment, product, and go-to-market decisions.
- Support the CSO in preparing materials for the executive team, board, and investors — translating complex analysis into concise narratives and clear recommendations.
- Partner with business unit leaders to convert strategy into execution plans with measurable milestones and KPIs, tracking progress as conditions evolve.
- Contribute to building LBR/ALM's internal strategy capability — playbooks, analytical templates, and repeatable frameworks that raise the bar across the organization.
What Makes This Role Distinctive
- Direct access and influence — you will work alongside the CSO day-to-day, with clear line-of-sight to executive and board-level priorities from the outset.
- Own the outcome, not just the slide — unlike consulting, you will stay to see your recommendations implemented and your models tested against reality.
- A genuinely interesting strategic moment — post-merger portfolio integration, AI-enabled proposition building, and a live M&A and partnerships pipeline across an international B2B platform.
- Material scope, quickly — you will own significant workstreams rather than small slices of large projects, and you will be stretched across strategy, commercial analysis, and execution.
- A culture that values thinking and doing equally — analytical rigor is expected, but so is bias to action. We are not a slide-ware culture.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 5 – 10 years of total experience, with a meaningful portion in strategy consulting, specialist commercial due diligence, or a high-calibre in-house strategy function.
- Experience at a specialist strategy or sector-focused consultancy is particularly valued [Recruiting Note: for example Plural Strategy, OC&C, Altman Solon, CIL, Cairneagle, Ma, or a comparable boutique with a B2B services, information, events, digital media, or TMT practice.]
- A track record of project-managing complex workstreams end-to-end: structuring the problem, driving the analysis, aligning stakeholders, and landing the recommendation at C-suite or board level.
- Direct experience in or adjacent to one or more of: subscription and recurring revenue models, B2B information or data businesses, digital media, or technology-enabled services.
- Comfort working with imperfect data to produce directionally sound, timely insight — you know that 'good and fast' often beats 'perfect and late.'
- Some exposure to partnership development, commercial structuring, or investor-grade business planning is a plus, but not a prerequisite.
Skills & Attributes
- Structured problem-solver — able to decompose complex, ambiguous questions into clear workplans and testable hypotheses without losing sight of the commercial question being answered.
- Commercially instinctive — you understand what drives value in information, and media businesses and can identify the levers that really move the needle.
- Strong, precise communicator — able to build trust quickly with senior stakeholders and present nuanced findings in a way that drives decisions, not just discussion.
- Collaborative and low-ego — comfortable operating as a trusted thought partner to business leaders and functional specialists, and willing to roll up your sleeves when needed.
- Growth mindset — motivated by learning, rapid iteration, and building something — not just advising from the outside.
