About the Position:
We are looking for a Purchasing Specialist to join the Green Technologies Japan Purchasing team, reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Purchasing.
This position is based at our office in Ora, Gunma.
As the urchasing Specialist at Marelli, you will be responsible for for procuring automotive parts, raw materials, and related services, with a focus on optimizing cost, quality, and lead time. By collaborating with both global and domestic suppliers and engaging in price negotiations and contract management, buyers contribute to strengthening the company’s competitiveness. They also work closely with internal departments to address procurement-related challenges and promote process improvements. This position is broadly involved in everything from monitoring market trends and industry developments to formulating and executing procurement strategies.
Your Responsibilities will be:
- Procurement of parts, raw materials, and services from domestic and overseas suppliers
- Selection of suppliers, negotiation of price, lead time, and quality, and conclusion of contracts
- Building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, as well as supplier performance evaluation
- Planning and execution of optimal purchasing strategies based on company procurement policies and cost reduction goals
- Risk management (such as dealing with delays and quality issues) and proposal of improvement measures
- Promotion of procurement issue resolution through collaboration with other departments (engineering, quality, production, etc.)
- Analysis of purchasing data, report creation, and system data entry and maintenance
- Exploration of new suppliers and research on market trends
What Qualifications you will bring:
- Practical experience in price negotiation, contract conclusion, and supplier management
- Experience coordinating with multiple departments and strong communication skills
- English proficiency (ability to communicate via email and in meetings)
- Basic PC skills (Excel, PowerPoint, ERP systems, etc.)
Other skills that we would welcome:
- Experience working with global suppliers or in overseas procurement
- Experience in purchasing and procurement in the automotive industry
- Experience using ERP systems such as SAP
- Legal knowledge such as contract drafting and review
- Foreign language skills other than English, such as Chinese
- Track record in cost analysis and cost reduction activities
- Experience in project management or improvement of procurement operations
- High sensitivity to industry trends and market changes, and strong information-gathering skills
