About the Role
Minimed is seeking an experienced Principal Packaging Engineer to manage medical device packaging in both new product introduction and sustaining programs. As part of the packaging group, you will be responsible for defining and capturing product requirements for packaging and labeling and conducting design and testing to develop packaging that complies with ISO standards and meets internal stakeholder needs.Responsibilities may include the following, with other duties assigned.
- Determines packaging specifications according to the nature of the product, cost limitations, legal requirements, and the type of protection required, considering the need for resistance to such external variables as moisture, corrosive chemicals, temperature variations, light, heat, rough handling, and tampering.
- Designs, develops, and tests a wide variety of containers used for the protection, display, and handling of products – (sterile barrier, primary packaging systems to pallet loads).
- Designs package exteriors considering such factors as product identification, customer appeal, aesthetic quality, printing, and production techniques.
- Responsibilities may include documentation management and/or coordination of good manufacturing practices (GMPs). Support prototype line development in manufacturing facilities/plants and the integration of the packaging design into our semi-auto-to-fully-automated manufacturing lines, as appropriate.
- Create Design Verification and Validation Plan / Protocols for producing and testing the packaging system for integrity, strength, aseptic presentation, and other related tests, based on industry standards and failure modes and risk levels.
- Perform Root Cause analysis for test failures and/or write technical rationales based on sound engineering principles and iterate/improve designs accordingly.
- Mentor younger professionals on the team and stay up to date with industry trends and best practices.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's degree with 7 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR PhD with 3 years relevant experience.
Nice to Have
- MedTech or regulated experience preferred
- Six Sigma/Lean Sigma Certification.
- Proficiency in statistical methods and software.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$120,800 - $180,200The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
