Job Description
The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for delivering robust cost management across the full engineering project lifecycle, ensuring accurate financial control, commercial compliance and high‑quality reporting. The role underpins project delivery by supporting scope definition, developing cost estimates, managing contracts and providing commercial insight that strengthens decision‑making and project performance.
The Quantity Surveyor works closely with engineering, supply chain and project management teams to track costs, assess change, support procurement activity and maintain clear, audit‑ready commercial records that enable predictable and efficient project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop clear cost plans, engineering estimates and expenditure profiles.
- Maintain accurate budgets, forecasts and commercial performance reports.
- Lead contract administration, including managing variations and change control.
- Support procurement through cost evaluation, tender assessments and supplier reviews.
- Monitor project spend against baseline costs and flag potential risks early.
- Produce structured cost models, pricing schedules and supporting documentation.
- Advise engineering teams on contract obligations, change impacts and commercial risk.
- Maintain accurate commercial records for compliance and audit readiness.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of cost management and delivery processes.
Work Experience
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Economics or a related discipline.
- Experience supporting commercial, cost or contract management within engineering, construction or technical project environments.
- Strong understanding of cost planning, estimating and financial control within engineered scopes of work.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, contract terms and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of procurement processes, supplier evaluation and contractor management in engineering supply chains.
- High level of analytical and numerical capability with strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills when working with engineering, project management and supply chain teams.
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience in highly regulated industries such as nuclear, Defence, rail, energy or infrastructure.
- Familiarity with engineering cost management tools, ERP systems or project controls platforms.
- Understanding of contract forms commonly used in engineering delivery such as NEC, ICE or similar.
