Job Description

Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.

Dimensions
Purpose

Provide safe and efficient control services involving the maintenance of Merian’s fixed plant process control systems in order to optimize production and ensure safety. This includes, but is not limited to, field instruments, PLCs, SCADA systems, and associated control infrastructure.

Essential Duties
  • Comply with all Newmont safety, environmental, and operational requirements and actively participate in safety programs 
  • Provide day-to-day technical support for ICS, including PLC, SCADA, instrumentation, and associated field equipment to ensure process stability, reliability and operational continuity
  • Interface with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and external vendors to diagnose issues, implement repairs, and improve system reliability.
  • Support control system maintenance strategies and participate in project execution, system upgrades, shutdowns, and plant improvement initiatives.
  • Apply industry best practices and Newmont standards to ensure compliance, cybersecurity awareness, and lifecycle integrity of ICS.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, drawings, and change records related to control system modifications via CMS.
  • Contribute to commissioning and troubleshooting of processing equipment, motor control systems, and advanced control strategies.
Training & Experience

Knowledge:

  • A degree, an associate degree or technical certification in Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Experience supporting mineral processing control systems; experience with AVEVA PI Vision or other historian platforms.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus TCP/IP, OPC, Profibus).
  • Understanding of IT/OT fundamentals, including virtualization, databases, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience specifying instrumentation and control system components.
  • Experience developing or modifying PCS configurations, HMI applications, and control narratives.
  • Familiarity with advanced regulatory and control strategies (e.g., cascade, feedforward).

Technical skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to support, maintain, and troubleshoot ICS in a mining, processing, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Schneider Modicon PLCs and Citect Plant/SCADA HMI systems to support system reliability and performance.
  • Strong capability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, loop drawings, and technical documentation to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze faults, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to work within integrated OT/IT environments, including familiarity with industrial networks, communication protocols, and system interfaces.
