
Accounting Clerk - Special Education
Job Description
Education/Certification Required:
- Sixty college hours of business coursework or three (3) years experience as an Accounting Clerk or Accounting related experience
Experience Required:
- Office and computer literate preferred.
- Experience with Windows 95, Microsoft Word and Excel
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Proficient in spreadsheet and word processing software, filing, ten key calculator, and data entry
- Ability to organize and manage high volume of paperwork
- Ability to work efficiently with diverse groups and individuals
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
- Ability to work independently
- Appropriate attire and good personal appearance
Technology Proficiency: Level 3
- Computer operations
- Software productivity tools (i.e., Microsoft Office)
- Job-related financial and student management systems
- Electronic file management
- Web-based applications
- Use of server file and printer resources

Function
The Special Education Accounting Clerk processes purchase requisitions, updates budget, utilizes account numbers, assists on budget, and budget amendments. Works independently and professionally with administrators, school staff, teachers, consultants and co-workers. Performs other duties related to budget.
Reports To:
Director for Special Education
Responsibilities:
- Processes purchase requisitions for second level of approval for the payment of goods and services.
- Verifies accuracy of account numbers.
- Prints and maintains a weekly requisition report.
- Ensures that special education accounts are being used correctly and by the proper staff.
- Follows up with receiving department, school, or vendor for missing documentation required for payment.
- Prints period expenditure reports.
- Calculates and tracks balances on blanket purchase orders based on authorized releases.
- Processes school activity fund reimbursements, Request for Professional Leave forms, Out of-District Travel Reimbursement/Advance Request forms, In-District Travel Reimbursement Request forms, and Field Trip Requisition Form.
- Researches purchase orders from previous year and outstanding purchase orders.
- Maintains records of all expenditures.
- Maintains records of all student field trip requests.
- Provides information to assist the Accountant (Special Education) in completing federal accounts.
- Reports to Accountant (Special Education) the status of all accounts payable related to the end of fiscal year for various funds.
- Reports to Accountant (Special Education) all outstanding encumbrances for funds with various closing dates that will carry over into the next fiscal year end.
- Provides the Accountant (Special Education) documentation as requested by auditors or various examiners.
- Performs other comparable duties as assigned by the Accountant (Special Education).
Working Conditions:
- Ability to receive information and/or instruction from internal/external customers through spoken expression.
- Ability to manipulate tools/equipment/keyboards.
- Ability to convey information and/or instruction to internal/external customers through spoken expression.
- Ability to perform work while standing and/or walking for extended periods, up to eight (8) hours a day.
- Ability to see detailed information, naturally or with correction.

Salary: CLES/404: $17.21 minimum/hour (individual salary calculation is based on applicable experience)
