Heavy Equipment Operator

Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma or GED certificate
• Must possess a valid Texas Operators or Class C Driver's license and be insurable by CCISD.

Technology Proficiency:

• Basic computer operations preferred

Experience:

• Required: Five (5) years experience in operation of tractors, maintainers, loaders, scrapers, dump trucks and lifts

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Demonstrates the willingness to work overtime if necessary to ensure job requirements are satisfied and when emergency situations arise
• Has the ability to communicate with personnel at all levels with the District
• Has the ability to communicate with contractors and vendors of heavy equipment materials and supplies
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently

Function

Under the direct supervision of the Site Maintenance Foreman and the general supervision of the Maintenance Coordinator. Grades, levels, fills and drains school grounds. Clears and landscapes new school sites.

Reports To:

Under direct supervision of Site Maintenance Foreman and the general supervision of Maintenance Coordinator

Responsibilities:

• Services and maintains equipment and makes minor repairs.
• Grades, levels, fills and drains school grounds
• Operates tractors, maintainers, load lifts and other types of equipment
• Assists in construction or repair of playground equipment, parking lots, PE hardtops, fences and sidewalks
• Drives dump trucks and assists with hauling off dirt, sand, asphalt and caliches to designates locations
• Cleans and reworks drainage ditches on school grounds
• Checks to ensure the safety of students and workmen at all times
• Must be able to operate a school vehicle in the performance of duties
• Establishes time and completion schedules
• Records proper information on work orders
• Responsible for quality control on all work performed
• Orders and maintains adequate stock of materials, equipment, and tools
• Performs and/or assists with other duties as assigned by supervisor

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Lifting (heavy, 45 pounds or over), carrying (heavy, 45 pounds or over), stooping, walking, climbing (stairs, ladders, scaffold, ramps), balancing, crouching, kneeling, pulling, crawling, working in confined areas, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, visual acuity, driving (car, truck, bus).
• Outside temperature extremes, noises, vibrating, slippery surfaces, sunlight, works around moving objects, kneeling, chemical exposure (asbestos, fumes, vapors, gases, dusts, smoke, etc.), Inside, humidity extremes, low or intense illumination, microwaves, uneven surfaces, works with hands in water, works around machinery with moving parts, works alone, prolonged or irregular hours, biological exposure (insects, mold, fungi, bacteria, animals, plants, etc.).

Salary: AUXS/608: $17.80 minimum/hour (individual salary calculation is based on applicable experience)
