Job Description
Who We Are: The Panther One team is a subunit of the Analytics team within the University’s Pitt Digital organization. We support the Pitt Athletics Department through best-in-class data, analytics, and AI development — building and applying advanced technologies that drive revenue growth, competitive excellence, and operational efficiency.
Who We Are Looking For: We are seeking a backend-first, full-stack engineer to build and maintain the systems, APIs, and infrastructure that power Panther One's data and analytics environment. You'll build primarily for a technical audience of data scientists, engineers, and analysts, and you bring the technical depth and design sensibility to make tools that are both well-engineered and genuinely pleasant to use.
What You Will Work On: Your work will span two areas in roughly equal measure. On the infrastructure side, you'll assist in managing cloud environments and developing data pipelines and integrations. On the applications side, you'll build and maintain the internal tools the Panther One team, and beyond, use to interact with data, models, and analytical outputs. You'll also contribute to shared engineering standards and patterns that keep both sides of the work consistent and maintainable.
Who you will work with: The employee will collaborate closely with its Panther One team members – including data engineers, analytics engineers, and data scientists – to build solutions. This position should expect to interact with Athletics staff as regular customers of their work.
Required Technical Experience:
3+ years of software engineering experience with meaningful exposure to both infrastructure and application development
Full-stack engineering skills with strength in backend systems: databases, APIs, authentication, reliability, and infrastructure
Proficiency in Python
Experience building and maintaining cloud infrastructure using Terraform and AWS
Experience with data integration patterns and connecting applications to data warehouse or database systems
Required Non-Technical Experience: Passion for sports and a desire to help Pitt Athletics be successful on and off the field; Strong collaboration skills with a demonstrated ability to work well within a team; Self-directed, motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment; Aptitude for managing diverse projects and navigating through shifting priorities and demands.
Desired (but not Mandatory) Experience: Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and front-end web development; Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities (OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock) into applications. --------------------------------
