Job Summary
The Marathon Los Angeles Refinery (LAR), located in Carson/Wilmington, California, has a full-time, exempt opening for a Safety Professional. The position reports to the Safety Supervisor and will be part of a team of experienced Safety professionals. The Safety Professional provides technical safety supports and promotes a safe working environment and ensures compliance with state, federal, and company safety regulations.
The available schedule for the position is a 9/80, on-call duty occurs a full week approximately once every 2 months and support of TAR as needed . Core Business hours are 6 AM - 3:30 PM.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide technical support of routine operations, project work, major maintenance or construction support, and emergency response to ensure worker safety throughout the planning and execution phases of work.
2. Support development, maintenance, and execution of safety programs for implementation in the field to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and conformance to MPC corporate standards.
3. Conduct auditing on safety programs to verify compliance and conformance with regulatory and MPC standards. This includes analyzing safety performance data to identify and report trends, along with proposing recommendations to address areas of concern.
4. Lead and support investigations for near-misses, incidents, and injuries to identify root causes and recommendations to prevent future incidents. Track recommendations to implementation to ensure completion.
5. Develop and present training material related to a variety of safety topics in collaboration with Operations and Learning Development departments.
6. Provide support for assigned programs, which may include providing input as a competent person for fall protection and excavation safety, support during Life Critical work and input on other regulatory programs.
7. Develop safety related communications for inclusion into shift starter meetings, safety meeting, notices, and bulletins.
Education, Experience and Skills
Minimum Qualifications
Must have High School diploma or GED required with 6 years of relevant safety professional experience OR Bachelor’s degree in related area with four (4) years of relevant safety professional experience. ( Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date.)
Must be able to collaborate enterprise-wide to enhance safety performance. Must be able to collaborates effectively with internal business partners to proactively identify complex risk and implement strategic mitigations
Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)
Must have steady employment history.
Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.
Travel Requirement is 5% or less.
