
Group Benefits Underwriter
Job Description
The Underwriter will:
Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with carriers, Account Managers and brokers
Run quotes on internal quote system and prepare proposal documents
Prepare market specifications for clients
Price new business opportunities as per established guidelines, processes and procedures
Analyze data and multiple carrier proposals and make recommendations related to the best option for the client
Coordinate new business implementation with account management and implementation team
Identify plan/claims issues and recommend solutions to consultants and internal partners
Prepare existing client renewal reporting, including negotiations with insurers
Supporting new sales and revenue growth targets
Corresponding with insurers on various issues and procedures
Provide Underwriting Consulting Services to various stakeholders
Supporting working relationships with Plan Sponsors, Plan Administrators and Representatives
To be successful as an Underwriter with People Corporation, you will need:
Post-secondary education or equivalent experience (Focus on math, risk assessment or economics is an asset)
2-4 years previous related work experience, or equivalent in a similar role such as insurance, group benefits or client service
Good analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
Good verbal and conflict resolution ability; very good written and listening skills
Good teamwork skills; collaborate across Underwriting team, various departments and externally
Good organizational skills & attention to detail
Computer proficiency in Excel
Knowledge of group benefits and/or insurance industry is an asset
GBA designation is an asset

Salary Range
The base salary for this position is between $60,000 - 75,000 annually.
This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation (i.e. annual bonus). The actual base salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, the Talent Acquisition Specialist will be able to provide additional details of the total compensation for this role.
