Are you passionate about making a difference in students’ lives? We are seeking a dedicated and experienced counselor to join our Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team at the Counseling and Wellness Center.

Position Overview: As a Senior Student Counselor, you will report to the Head (Counseling and Psychological Services) and play a crucial role in supporting our diverse student body. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Personal Counseling: Provide psychological assessment, individual and group counseling and psychotherapy to help students overcome challenges and achieve personal growth.

  • Cross-Cultural Counseling: Assist students from various cultural backgrounds in maximizing their educational experience.

  • Workshops & Seminars: Conduct in-service training, engaging workshops, seminars, and orientation activities on mental health, academic concerns, and life skills.

  • Crisis Intervention: Offer timely intervention for students, faculty, and staff in crisis situations.

  • Consultation Services: Advise faculty and staff on student mental health issues and development.

  • Professional Supervision: Provide clinical supervision to Counselors.

  • Administrative Management: Contribute to the planning, evaluation, and policy formulation of CAPS as well as university-wide counseling related initiatives.

Collaboration & Impact: You will act as a key collaborator across HKUST's academic and administrative departments, delivering comprehensive support that empowers students to overcome challenges and thrive. Flexibility is essential, as irregular working hours are sometimes necessary to respond to our students' evolving needs.


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or related disciplines.

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant post-qualification experience, including administrative and supervisory experience.

  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a recognized Hong Kong counseling, psychotherapy or psychological professional body (e.g. the Hong Kong Professional Counseling Association, the Hong Kong Institute of Clinical Psychologists, the Hong Kong Psychological Society), or other internationally well-recognized professional bodies. Senior membership (associate fellow and above) is a plus.

  • An approved supervisor in the field of counseling, counseling psychology, clinical psychology, psychotherapy or equivalent, accredited by local or internationally well-recognized professional bodies.

  • No disciplinary actions were ever conducted by any professional registration bodies.

  • Fluency in Cantonese, Putonghua, and English.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, group work, and crisis intervention skills.

  • Preference for candidates with experience working with tertiary-level students and a passion for enhancing educational goals.
