Job Duties:
This is work as an entry-level to semi-skilled building laborer or tradesperson in the performance of:
Routine grounds maintenance.
Custodial/janitorial or housekeeping work.
Apprentice-level facility maintenance activities.
Work is typically labor intensive and requires close to general supervision in the areas of custodial/housekeeping work.
Uncomplicated building repair and maintenance, or grounds keeping work.
Positions at this level receive verbal instruction to properly accomplish or organize tasks.
Decision-making authority is limited to selection of tools or equipment and determining the organization and sequence of separate work tasks and duties as assigned.
Assist maintenance staff with routine building and grounds maintenance tasks
Learn basic maintenance skills including:
- Light plumbing repairs
- Basic electrical troubleshooting
- Painting and drywall repair
- HVAC filter replacement
Preventative maintenance procedures
Assist with facility inspections and work order completion
Help move equipment, furniture, and exhibit materials as needed
Safe operation of hand tools and basic maintenance equipment
Identify and report facility maintenance concerns or safety hazards promptly
Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: No specific education, training, or experience is required for entry to this class.
Preferred: General knowledge of custodial work is preferred.
Other: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and Reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The role requires basic knowledge of groundskeeping, building maintenance, tool and equipment safety, and cleaning methods. It also needs skill with hand and power tools, maintenance equipment, and basic computer use. The person must be able to communicate clearly, follow instructions, read technical materials, operate cleaning equipment, and work safely at heights.
