Job Description
York Space Systems seeks an experienced and proven professional to join our fast-growing company that is disrupting and changing the space industry. The Business Development Director will spearhead efforts to secure new business opportunities with a focus on the missions within Space Systems Command (SSC) in Los Angeles, CA. This role requires a strategic, innovative thinker with established relationships in the aerospace and defense community, exceptional multi-tasking skills, and a proven ability to drive business growth. They will cultivate and sustain customer relationships to shape business opportunities aligned with York’s unique space capabilities and business model. They will engage across the space industry ecosystem, including government stakeholders, leveraging customer knowledge and contacts to drive success in winning new business.
The candidate must navigate the dynamic space industry, develop targeted relationship-building strategies. They will also work tactically while managing key priorities within tight timelines, ensuring accountability of their actions, and maximizing business impact.
Responsibilities
Build and maintain strong relationships with government and industry customers to drive strategic growth
Leverage established customer relationships to advance business opportunities aligned with York’s space solutions
Engage in industry day events, local activities, and customer visits
Identify high-value market, government budgets, and customer opportunities through market and competitive analysis
Provide recommendations and present business development opportunities to pursue
Provide regular updates to guide team strategy and manage the opportunity pipeline
Collaborate with functional leadership (e.g., CTO, LT, Contracts) to align York offerings with customer needs
Develop innovative capture strategies to secure new business; provide the team with win themes for proposals and white papers
Willing to travel as needed to visit SSC customers and attend industry events on a regular basis
Qualifications
Experience in the space domain and solid technical understanding of space platforms
Established network of customer relationships within Space Systems Command (SSC) and other related government entities
Excellent business / strategic acumen and instinct
Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and workloads
Excellent presentation and customer-facing skills
Ability to travel an estimated 25% to visit space customers, attend industry events, and collaborate with team members
U.S. Citizenship
Ability to obtain security clearance
Must reside in the Los Angeles metropolitan area
