
AD Toolchain Architect (Recompute)

China is the biggest passenger car market for Mercedes-Benz. In Mercedes-Benz R&D China. We strive to provide China-fit ADAS/AD products through advanced technologies to our Chinese customers. We are currently looking for ADAS/AD talent who share the same passion and enthusiasm for developing a China-fit ADAS/AD system.
The Architect for AD Toolchain Platform is a critical position within the Autonomous Driving Data Team. This role is mainly responsible for defining the simulation technology architecture for AD systems in China with a primary focus on developing and scaling the robust open-loop replay and closed-loop log-simulation systems utilizing real vehicle data. The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful recompute tooling delivery fulfilling stakeholder needs.
As recompute architect, you will also be responsible for integrating China-specific market demands, regulatory standards, and inputs from suppliers and HQ to deliver scalable, secure, and compliant simulation solutions including but not limited to:
1. Define Recompute/Simulation concept
Define future-proof simulation technology concept and architecture for current and next-generation AD systems
Work closely with internal stakeholders, headquarters, industry partners, regulatory bodies to align technology roadmaps
- Promote concept reuse and achieve strategic synergy
2. Design and implement AD recompute solution
Design and implement high-performance closed-loop log-simulation pipeline as primary focus
Lead the strategy and technical design for core simulation capabilities, prioritizing real-world data ingestion, management, and replay.
Deliver architectural solutions for accurate vehicle dynamics modeling, sensor data replay and virtual environment interaction within log-sim context
- Ensure all architectural deliverables adhere to relevant regulatory and functional safety (ISO 26262) requirements
3. Fulfill stakeholder and business needs
Identify and manage internal stakeholder needs on AD Recompute tooling
Work with internal stakeholders and suppliers to realize required use cases successfully
- Provide evidence for business values in AD development such as efficiency increase
- Master degree in field such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or equivalent.
- More than 8 years of experience in autonomous driving, vehicle software, or simulation domains
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience as system/solution architect or technical lead focused on simulation technology for ADAS/AD development
- Deep and hands-on expertise with ROS/ROS2 ecosystems, particularly in data recording (rosbag), playback, and tooling for AD systems
- In-depth understanding of full AD stack (perception, planning, control, etc.) and in-vehicle networks (CAN/CAN-FD, in-vehicle Ethernet, SOME/IP).
- Deep knowledge of simulation methodologies with proven experience in closed-loop simulation frameworks, sensor data modeling and scenario extraction from logs. Familiarity with tools like CARLA.
- Knowledge of Fast RTPS and DDS middleware for ROS 2.
- Proficient in C++ programming and compiling.
- HiL bench setup experience preferred

- Willingness to travel inside China and abroad
