Job Description
The Data & BI team sits within the IT Practice of AURELIUS WaterRise and works across the entire AURELIUS portfolio — industrials, technology & business services, consumer goods — across the UK, Continental Europe, and North America.
This is not a back-office reporting role. You will be embedded directly into portfolio companies during critical transformation phases: post-acquisition carve-outs, ERP migrations, operational turnarounds. You will often be the first analytics hire these businesses have ever had. You’ll build from scratch, work with messy real-world data, and deliver insights that shape Board-level decisions and value creation plans.
The role requires someone who can operate independently, switch contexts fast, and communicate as comfortably with a plant manager as with a PE investment director.
What You’ll Do
Analytics & Insight
Build operational dashboards and executive reporting from the ground up at newly acquired portfolio companies
Design scalable data models that connect fragmented source systems (ERP, CRM, production, finance) into coherent analytical views
Identify KPIs, surface non-obvious patterns, and translate data into actionable insights for leadership
Develop financial and operational analyses including P&L deep-dives, margin bridges, run-rate models, and forecasting support
Stakeholder Management
Navigate competing priorities across C-suite, operational teams, and AURELIUS investment professionals
Frame findings for Board presentations and investor reporting — not just charts, but narrative and recommendation
Push back professionally when requests are unrealistic, poorly scoped, or misaligned with strategic priorities
Train and enable local teams to sustain reporting independently after your engagement ends
Data Engineering & Architecture
Assess and improve data maturity at portfolio companies — from Excel-based reporting to modern BI platforms
Build ETL/ELT pipelines, clean and reconcile messy post-carve-out data, and establish data quality standards
Advise on platform and tooling decisions (Power BI, Azure/Fabric, cloud data platforms) appropriate to each company’s scale and maturity
AI & Automation
Use AI tools (LLMs, coding assistants, copilots) to accelerate data exploration, prototyping, and documentation
Identify and implement automation opportunities — recurring reports, data validation, extract pipelines — that reduce manual effort
Stay current on emerging AI/ML capabilities relevant to analytics and bring a pragmatic view on where they add genuine value vs. hype
What We’re Looking For
5+ years in BI/analytics roles with meaningful Power BI experience (data modelling, DAX, Power Query)
SQL proficiency — comfortable writing queries against relational databases, not just drag-and-drop
Strong financial literacy — you can read a P&L, understand margin structures, and spot when numbers don’t reconcile
Experience working with ERP data (SAP, Dynamics, Oracle, or similar) and understanding how transactional systems map to analytical models
Proven ability to work autonomously in ambiguous environments — you don’t wait for a requirements document; you figure out what matters
Excellent communication skills — you can present to a Board, write a concise stakeholder email, and explain a data model to a non-technical audience
Willingness to travel to portfolio company sites across Europe (and occasionally North America) for on-site engagements
Nice to have
Python for data analysis, automation, or pipeline development
Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, Fabric, Databricks, or similar)
Background in PE, consulting, or transformation environments where you’ve had to build analytics capability from zero
Exposure to manufacturing, industrial, or retail operational data
Active use of AI/LLM tools in your analytical workflow — not as a gimmick, but as a genuine productivity multiplier
German language skills (many portfolio companies are DACH-based)
What We Offer
A seat on a small, high-impact team where your work directly influences investment decisions and portfolio company performance
Variety — no two engagements are the same; you’ll work across industries, geographies, and business models
Exposure to PE deal lifecycle, operational transformation, and senior leadership across the portfolio
Autonomy and ownership from day one — we hire people who can be trusted to run with a problem
